About this deal

First, there’s the push-in wire connector. This should have the live cables from your existing light switch pushed into it, forming a permanent connection. If you have a single light switch that should be two cables; a double switch should have three live cables. Do not insert neutral cables or earth cables into this connector. Even if the light switch is left alone, having physical control for your lights means that you need to put a Hue wireless switch somewhere (such as the Hue Dimmer Switch or Senic Friends of Hue Smart Switch). Often, the best place to put one of these is next to your existing light switch, which doesn’t look particularly nice.

Now for something a bit different. The Bot by SwitchBot is a little gadget with a robotic arm designed to press (or pull) just about any button or switch around your home. It’s a little bit fiddly to set up, as the moving arm is quite small and you need to position it just right, but once you’ve put the effort in it works really well, at least on the standard single-gang light switch we tried it with. Depending on how you control your lights, your light switch can reverse direction. For example, if you start by pressing your switch down to turn on your lights but then use the Hue app to turn the lights off, you then have to press your light switch up to turn your lights on.

Gangs and ways are the terms used to describe light switch connections. They tell you how many light fittings the switch can control and how many other switches control the same light. Here’s an explanation.

The Lutron companion app on Android and iPhone has a lot of features that help with home lighting, as well. This includes remote access, geofencing, and more. Apple HomeKit support is available, although you get less control here: you can only configure the Philips Hue Wall Switch Module for a single press. I wouldn’t bother setting the switch up in HomeKit. To do so, make sure your Switch is connected to the internet. Then head into System Settings and find the 'System' submenu. In here, select the 'System Update' option and wait for the console to reboot. Reset the AC adapter If that's all you need, then you're all set. However, more adventurous types can also modify the switch's code to change what happens when you press its switch. The Enbrighten can also work with a host of other smart home systems once you connect it to a hub, too. We only wish it came with a cover plate. Most smart light switches will work with Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit, so you can connect them to other smart home devices, and control them using your voice. This is serious longevity. You probably won’t need to worry about replacing this battery very often and with a three-year lifespan, you won’t even need to worry about rechargeable batteries for this switch.

Depending on what you're doing, your console's battery should last between two and a half to six hours for an original console (released between 2017 and 2019), or four and a half to nine hours for the revised model released in 2019. The Nintendo Switch Lite is rated for three to seven hours, while the Switch OLED model gets the same four and a half to nine hours as the revised version. Installation, as with most other smart switches, requires a neutral wire, but it's fairly straightforward. The switch includes an ambient light sensor (so it can be set not to come on in daylight) and a motion sensor to automatically trigger the light. The latter feature worked seamlessly. If you turn it off with the switch, after a few minutes it will engage the motion sensor again, or you can disable the sensor via the app in case you don't want it switched on in the middle of the night. Now that we know everything there is to know about batteries for the Hue Dimmer Switch, how do we change them? How to Change Hue Dimmer Switch BatteriesThis is a feature we like: If a smart light switch has this feature in its app, it will automatically turn your lights on and off randomly while you're away, to make it look like you're home. Frequently asked questions Do I need an electrician to install a smart light switch? If your dimmer switch is acting up, it might be due to a failing battery. What is the Hue Dimmer Switch’s Battery Life? To test smart switches, we either installed them ourselves, or had an electrician install them in our house. We then evaluated the switches based on the following criteria: Functionality: Does it support three-way or four-way connections? What other features does it have?

The switch is easy to add to an existing Wiz system, but has fairly limited functionality. It can only be used to turn the lights on or off with a press, and to raise and lower their brightness with a long press of each button. There’s no option for enabling preset lighting scenes, and we encountered a couple of strange issues with the Wiz app during the setup process. Only try this if you've exhausted the other solutions presented in our guide. You will need to send your Switch off to Nintendo for the repair, which will leave you without the console for a period of time.Homeowners or businessowners often replace their light switches simply because they want to update them to suit their room décor. But, for safety, they should be replaced if they’re showing any of the following signs of wear and tear: Thanks to the Switch's adoption of USB-C, the console can theoretically be charged up by a wider range of products. Smart light switches tend to be relatively cheap (at least compared with some of the pricier smart bulbs and LED light strips like the Philips Hue Lightstrips), as well as being compact and very easy to use. They are also simple to install and set up, and even those that replace your existing wired switches only require a very basic understanding of domestic electricity. But if none of our steps have worked, then it may be the console itself that's at fault, which is where Nintendo's official repairs service can help you solve the problem.
