Hook the elastic holding pole sections at the end nearest the broken section and pull out so knot can be undone (or if necessary cut off)

When you erect the porch, be sure to get the 2 sides of the rear apron over the outsides of the 2 roof poles. Failure to do this will mean water will pool on top. Secondly (and related) is that the very useful lantern mounting point on the ceiling has a fantastic cable management system - but it only goes down one side of the tent - towards the cable entry point. There are many reasons why the electrical supply wont necessarily be right there so it would be really useful if it had the velcro tabs going both ways.We've just been camping with some friends of ours and they have a Kalahari 8, and they were very positive in their recommendation of it. So much so that I thought we might invest in one ourselves as our growing family is needing a bit more room. So far, it’s been great. I’m not an aficionado of tent quality so I can’t comment on that. Nor can I tell you if it’s going to last us very long – we’ve only taken it away twice so far this year. It's a great size and the extra space it gives is really fantastic. There is room for my entire kitchen outside in the porch plus 2 fold up chairs to sit in. If the porch was better designed then it would be almost a no-brainer. Fantastic size (massive but without looking oversized) for our family of 2 adults, 2 children (aged 12 + 9) and dog

This tent is great and in its price range it might be the best. I reviewed it last year and gave it 10. However, 18 months later there are things I wish I knew and my experience drops it a couple of points. I bought this as part of the Kalahari Elite 8 bundle. Love the tent - it's amazing. However this porch is extremely poorly designed. We love the room that this provides us with. We are not the biggest family and consist of two adults a 6 year old and a dog. For us we only use one bedroom and do not fit the second bedroom. As such this provides us with masses of floor space to organise our equipment. The second bedroom however will be very handy as we often take other family friends with us and we will still have enough space to store and keep everything inside.There is nowhere in the porch to mount a lantern/light which is a little silly really. To be honest a pole going between the 2 upright poles would add huge stability, help to tension the porch and provide somewhere to clip a light to. Comes with poles to hold the door up to make a little porch area, well ventilated, easy to put away, a real little gem. The gap at the sides was not too big though, about 4 inches at the most, but flush at the top and bottom of the dome. It also directed most of the rain around the outside of the tent, rather than into the door area. We couldn't get the roof properly taught, again, possibly due to the angle of the tent we attached it to, so water did pool a little above us, but at no point did it leak.
