About this deal

Produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, it is a co-commission between the BBC and BritBox International. The Agatha Christie novel of the same name is adapted by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and directed by Meenu Gaur. It is produced by Karen Kelly. Executive producers are Ejiwunmi-Le Berre, James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited, James Gandhi and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, Danielle Scott-Haughton for the BBC and Reemah Sakaan and Stephen Nye for BritBox International. [2] James Gandhi, executive producer for Mammoth Screen says: “Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre has written an extraordinary adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel, putting the post-war, quintessentially English village under the magnifying glass and exposing the secrets that lurk beneath the picture perfect surface of Wychwood under Ashe. With the amazing Meenu Gaur directing, this adaptation will captivate and delight audiences.” Filming took place in Scotland in the summer of 2023 on the two-part drama series. [3] [4] First-look images from the production were released in November 2023. [5] Broadcast [ edit ] Amy Gibbs is made a relative of one of the victims (someone who in the episode is known as Florrie Gibbs), and lives with Honoria.

Luke ends up getting a lot of gossip and feelings and starts to think that Lavina was right that there is something darker going on with one of the residents. Of course Christie throws in some some random I hate you, but I love you story-line between Luke and Bridget and it doesn't quite work because I honestly don't even get why either one of them is attracted to each other. There is a setting of the cozy village where nothing can go wrong but an evil is under play below the nice facade. There is an unwanted romance added to the mix which I could have done without but then I think it was very much needed to wrap up the story in the end.

Mary Dell of the Daily Mirror, wrote on 8 June 1939, "It'll keep you guessing will this latest book from the pen of one of the best thriller writers ever." [8] England, 1954. On a train to London, Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) meets Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton), who tells him that a killer is on the loose in the sleepy English village of Wychwood under Ashe.

Honoria drugs Bridget's tea and takes her into the woods, where the two of them begin talking. Bridget has not drunk the tea (though Honoria doesn't know that) and is ready for what comes. Honoria reveals a knife covered in Whitfield's fingerprints, and informs Bridget that she will kill her and leave the knife at the scene. Further, Honoria arranges for Whitfield to be seen walking alone through the area where Bridget's body will be. Instead, Bridget fights with Honoria. Luke realises that Honoria is the murderer and rescues Bridget. Bridget and Luke leave the village to live together as a married couple. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “With an intriguing central mystery and a fantastic creative team behind the camera, it’s no surprise that this new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit has attracted a who’s who of UK acting talent to bring Murder is Easy to the screen. BBC viewers are in for a treat that will keep them guessing to the very end.” Adapted for stage by Clive Exton, directed by Wyn Jones, and performed at the Duke of York's Theatre, London (23 February - 10 April 1993), starring Charlotte Attenborough, Peter Capaldi, Nigel Davenport, Irene Sutcliffe and Ian Thompson.

He thinks she's just got an overactive imagination, wishes her well, and goes on about his day without giving her a second thought. Until he reads about her death in the paper the next day. And then reads about the death of the doctor she said would die next if she didn't act. It's too much of a coincidence for him to ignore, so he decides to go down to Wychwood under Ashe and poke around. These brand new pictures feature David Jonsson ( Industry, Rye Lane) as Fitzwilliam, alongside Morfydd Clark ( Lord of the Rings, Saint Maud) as Bridget; Penelope Wilton ( Downton Abbey, After Life) as Miss Pinkerton, Tom Riley ( The Nevers, Ill Behaviour) as Lord Whitfield, Douglas Henshall ( Shetland, In Plain Sight) as Major Horton, Mathew Baynton ( Ghosts, Wonka) as Dr Thomas and Mark Bonnar ( World on Fire, Guilt) as Reverend Humbleby.

Una de las primeras novelas que leí de esta autora. Sigue estando entre las que más me han gustado. The first two victims - the village's vicar, and an elderly woman who made home remedies - die differently, the vicar being killed by the murderer's tampering with his beekeeper's mask, causing him to inhale deadly fumes when spraying, and the woman dying after consuming poisonous mushrooms slipped surreptitiously into the pot of stew simmering on her hob. The villagers believe the deaths are mere accidents, but Miss Pinkerton knows otherwise - and when she's later found dead on her way to Scotland Yard, Luke feels he must find the killer before they can strike again. Because for a certain kind of person, murder is easy… If I'm missing other secondary characters, it's because I didn't find them memorable and forgot about them.

It deserves a remake, it deserves a quality remake, I know one is coming from The BBC/Britbox, I'm intrigued to see what they do with it. The first disappointment came with the characters. Unlike a lot of Christie's more well-crafted works (Death on the Nile springs to mind), none of the characters in this novel were particularly engaging. I found that I didn't really care about any of them.

Here Agatha Christie again turns away from her established detectives to try something new. A string of apparently unrelated deaths turns out to be devious multiple murder plot. Abbatescianni, Davide (July 11, 2023). "Filming begins in Scotland on Meenu Gaur's two-part thriller Murder Is Easy". Cineuropa.org . Retrieved November 14, 2023.

Luke changes his mind about who is responsible for the deaths, considering Whitfield as the murderer. He consults Miss Waynflete, who confirms his suspicions, and tells him of how she knew he was insane: when they were younger, Waynflete and Whitfield had been engaged to be married. But one evening, Whitfield killed the bird that she kept as a pet, with the appearance that he enjoyed doing it, and she says she ended their engagement. No one human being knows the full truth about another human being. Not even one’s nearest and dearest.” I actually did suspect who the murderer was quite a while before the Big Reveal happened. So this is one that you can figure out if you're looking closely. Although, I wrongly guessed why they were offing everyone. In fact, I would argue that the setup for this mystery is Christie's most brilliant and engaging. An encounter with a seemingly crazy old lady on a train becomes much more significant when it turns out her suspicions may be founded. I was really disappointed, however.
