About this deal

I like the stainless steel case. It has an interesting multi-layered construction, with the top part having the bead-blasted finish and the bottom (as well as the sides between the lugs) being highly polished. The round bezel formed out of the top section simulates a third layer. The case's sleek lines and tiered geometry contribute significantly to the SNK803's visual appeal.

The strap is a beige canvas strap that matches the dial of the watch. It is quite basic and has a diameter of 18mm at the lug. There’s nothing special about the strap. It works, but the good news is that you can easily change it shall you wish to do so. ConclusionIt has ten adjustment holes, so it fits most wrists. Along the adjustment holes, you’ll find what seems to be leather stitched to the nylon strap. This gives a slight contrast to the strap. Is it the perfect dimensions? The pulling beige dial? Or maybe it’s the venerable and reliable — though outdated — movement? Or is it just because this watch says “Seiko” on the dial? Whether one reason pulls more than another, one thing we know is that this watch is the perfect amalgamation of all that was mentioned.

Next, we wanted to emphasize the circle that splits the dial between hours and minutes. So we went the two-tone route and contrasted the khaki with dark gray. A dial within the dial, the sharp shift in tonality allows the eye to choose what region to focus on. The hour index, as well as “automatic” script, are printed in white. Seiko 5 stands for the 5 elements deemed worthy on a mainstream watch at the time of the original Seiko 5’s release in 1963. What’s in a name? The Five in Seiko 5 Third, the date changes really slowly. It takes till around 3-4 am for the date to fully change to the next day.

Overview

At a price of less than 100 USD, the Seiko SNK803 offers great value for money. We would argue that it is one of the best watches for the money when it comes to automatic watches. This watch contains an "un-adjusted" Seiko 7S26 movement. This movement's strong point is that it continues to run reliably, just about as accurately, for a very long time before requiring service - typically well over 12 years. Up to 20+ is quite possible. Some people claim to have Seiko watches from the 60s (with very similar movement inside) that are still running beautifully without ever visiting a watch maker (50+ years!). Above the hands is the applied Seiko text along with the Seiko 5 shield. Below the hands are “21 Jewels” and “Automatic” printed in all caps. SNK803 Movement For one, there are the snug dimensions of both a 37mm case diameter and a lug-to-lug of 43mm, making this watch wear perfectly on a variety of wrist sizes. I am very happy with this little "Fleiger style" watch, particularly with it's dial, which compares to any that I have seen in the affordable watch space. The dial has a great deal of well composed detail, this is subtle and hard to see in photographs. In person this very inexpensive watch actually looks high-end.

The other thing that makes the SNK809 worth buying is its size. While watches are slowly coming down in size, and there are more and more sub-40mm offerings available all the time, there are still not as many to be found in the 36-37mm range. For those with smaller wrists or those who prefer smaller or mid-sized watches, the SNK series fits the bill. The Seiko 5 SNK809 has a Hardlex hardened mineral crystal. Hardlex is more rugged than an acrylic crystal, which is what you might expect to find on a watch of this price. And while many people prefer sapphire crystals these days, Seiko’s proprietary Hardlex is a decent budget alternative. It’s less scratch-resistant than sapphire but also a bit more shatterproof. However, it’s generally not going to be as durable as sapphire in many situations. If multiple versions exist they are assembled by identical machines using the same components under the same quality controls and should therefore be of equivalent quality. The Seiko SNK803’s sporty, casual look is finished off with a rugged beige canvas strap which wonderfully complements the watch’s dial. If you are not familiar with canvas straps, this type of strap is frequently paired with outdoor watches due to their portability, comfort, and most importantly, its waterproof capabilities. Straps made of nylon, fabric, and leather perform terribly when exposed to wet surfaces, which can result in damage to the strap. As such, canvas straps are a much more recommended alternative for field watches like the Seiko SNK803. Price The Seiko 5 SNK809 is a watch that’s still worth buying in 2022. And it will likely be worth buying in well into the year to come. The Seiko SNK803 is powered by the Seiko-developed 7S26B. This is an automatic mechanical movement equipped with a rotor.

Kintarō Hattori, the founder of Seiko, opened his watch and jewelry shop called K. Hattori in Tokyo, Japan. A lot has changed since the SNK809 was first released in the early 2000s, however. So is the Seiko 5 SNK809 still worth buying in 2022? Is the Seiko 5 SNK809 a good watch? Are there reasons to buy the SNK809 besides price? Yes, I’d say there are. Fit and comfort: a watch size that worksYou’ll find a few other variations online, but these are the most commonly ones I found in my research.
