About this deal

The fifth glass is unarguably clean. Especially because Haf has been pretending to scrub at a stain that isn't there, like a horny Lady Macbeth wanting to prolong the moment." A memoir exploring transition, autism and addiction and how all three have been a large part of growing up for games writer Laura Kate Dale. Honest, very frank and hopeful. A surprisingly hopeful story of community and love featuring a group of teenagers housed in a facility for young people who find themselves truly alone when a plague pandemic breaks out, leaving them to form their own futures. Told through 3 points of view, one of which is Logan, a non-speaking autistic girl whose twin sister, and the only other person who communicates in their language, becomes unwell. Another thrilling adventure that puts disabled kids in the protagonist role. Autistic main character & autistic author

Luna Rae has just moved to a new house with her family and started a totally new school when her mum disappears. Really, Luna Rae just wants to be a detective, watching the people on her new street, or hiding in the amazing treehouse with her new friend. But when her new school announces a parent-child baking competition, Luna Rae decides this will be the best way to bring her mum home. Mature, compassionate story of having to take charge when the adults won’t or can’t. Rep: fat white Welsh bisexual cis female MC (undiagnosed autistic), white British lesbian cis female side character with hEDS, white British questioning-bisexual cis male side character, Asian-British nonbinary side character, various white cishet British side characters. Lizzie Huxley-Jones thank you for the extra comment of Haf's autism at the end. I'm sorry that at some point in time you had the chaos Haf was feeling (or something similar) at the start of the book. I do hope you have had a happy ended we all deserve. But don't make the mistake I did of beginning to read it later in the day. 3am was not a fun existence for my eyes, as I desperately clutched my tablet, trying to continue reading that last 12% of the book. I can also work with authors closely to develop their characters or ideas further. If you have a character brewing and want to make sure you don’t fall into any traps, I can advise you around tropes, reading material and help you understand all your character’s facets. I can also help with any writing around zoology, marine biology, fishing, charity communications, bookselling and the publishing industry. I am also happy to provide wider manuscript suggestions on request, though broader editorial assistance will likely require a higher fee. I’m happy to work on all areas of fiction, including YA and children’s fiction, and also memoir/non-fiction.Was it full of the feel good factor? Yes. Totally. I realised about a 3rd of the way through I was genuinely smiling! If a book it making you subconsciously smile, then it is definitely doing something right. The first self-help book on autism I read, and I still recommend it for autistic women and their parents. Charting from early life to employment, this advice book explains how autism may present differently in women and how to support them. Recommended for parents.

But by the next day, rumours have spread. Everyone believes she and Christopher are madly in love and spending the festive season with his family in the English countryside. To save her new friend from embarrassment – and with no better plans of her own – Haf agrees to go along with the ruse. I was also glad to see how disability was represented. As someone with multiple chronic illnesses and disabled myself, it was heartening to see it broached in a way that meant it was there in an extremely realistic manner. Ruth is the town pariah — and that suits her as she doesn’t like them either. But when Evan Miller moves in next door and starts to charm her, Ruth has to decide whether to trust him or stay with herself. A very fun, hot romance novel with an autistic main character! Autistic main character & own voices. Hodder & Stoughton has acquired Make You Mine This Christmas, a queer festive rom-com by autistic editor and author Lizzie Huxley-Jones.for a full day school visit. A full day visit means four sessions maximum, for no longer than six hours. Book signing can be structured however the school prefers. First of all I loved all the characters and all the representation in this book. We follow our main character Haf who's bisexual and undiagnosed with autism. Her roommate Ambrose is non-binary. When she finds out her parents are going on a holiday for Christmas without her and she just suffered from quite a bad breakup she realises she will spend the holidays by herself. When she meets Christopher at a party and his ex mistakes them for a couple they somehow end up in a messy chaotic plan of fake dating and Christopher bringing Haf home for Christmas. On her way there she has this incredibly amazing meet cute with a woman who later she finds out is Christopher his sister named Kit, to make things even more complicated. Related: I didn’t know gingerbread house baking could be laden with so much sexual tension! It was impressive. I enjoyed the chemistry and how tastefully it all pans out. There was no really big drama which normally I find in books like this. An adorable Christmas novel filled with terrible schemes, a grand ball and one very horrible goose’ KAT DUNN

A year in the life, Dara walks us through the seasons as he sees them at home in Northern Ireland through diary entries. Musings on autism, nature and the wonder of the world, this is a highly accomplished, and beautiful debut that I've been reading and re-reading through the pandemic. May: I chaired a panel about best friends in YA literature at Chadwell Heath YA Festival, interviewing Non Pratt, Alice Oseman, Mary Bello and Chloe Seager. 2017

Characters: Haf is a fat bisexual white Welsh wildlife charity communications worker in her early to mid-20s. She was written as someone with undiagnosed autistim and is unaware of her diagnosis. Kit is a 28 year old disabled lesbian white architect. Her brother Christopher is a 26 year old bisexual white financial analyst/investment advisor. Kit and Christopher’s parents have dogs named Stella and Luna. This is set in York and Oxlea, England. After a year from hell, Haf is ready to blow off steam at a Christmas party: a kind stranger, a few too many drinks and suddenly she's kissing Christopher under the mistletoe - in front of his ex-girlfriend. I loved this!! I would love to see a movie adaptation for this because it would just be the perfect Christmas movie. The autistic anthology I edited, featuring the work of 18 autistic people through short fiction, essays, and art. Graphic Novels But by the next day, rumours have spread. Everyone believes she and Christopher are madly in love and spending the festive season with his family in the English countryside. To save her new friend from embarrassment - and with no better plans of her own - Haf agrees to go along with the ruse.
