I know, there have been reformulations, and some think it is now weaker. I’m not sure, but again, never been a beast for me. La Nuit de L’Homme is one that has been the signature scent for many guys, since its release. It can still play that role, just not to the same degree now, with the performance issues. Okay - a little cheesy, but this is honestly how transcendent YSL's juice is to me. I first smelled this and was absolutely in love with the intoxicatingly rich and spicy cardamom - a note that I am already very fond of and I think this bottle has used it masterfully! However, as singular as the nose is at first, it warms into a heart of gorgeous lavender (fresh, not dried) that is blended harmoniously with warm citrus (bergamot), which also lifts the accord and giving it a breeze of fresh air. The cedar is not overly used or dusty - on the contrary - this is very rich and damp cedar. The olfactory pleasure continues into the dry down with a nice fresh vetiver accord that is not overly "rooty" or earthy. A slightly sharp, but also clean vetiver that melds with the cedar and lavender with the cardamom carrying through the whole composition. This turns, on my skin (nothing short of amazing) slightly sweet, powdery blend of warm notes that just seem to breathe on my skin! That is coumarin in the base...and it is used in perfect balance here. A word of caution...don't over-apply. But, feel free to wear a fair amount as this is not overly 'loud'. I blind -bought this for my partner (and I use men's colognes myself) and was pleased that for once it was not one of those sweet/ aquatic nasal-passage-destroying men's scents. I think weather/ temperature plays a big part. You wouldn't drink a glass of warm white wine nor an ice-cold glass of red, so why would you wear a blaring loud fragrance in the heat of summer? At first, it is paired with a very light citrus note of bergamot, which gives the composition a bit of brightness. However, the overall impression is one of warmth, and super freshness.

Overall, though, I have to recommend this scent. It is sexy and pleasing and generally very well-liked by women. I really like the opening burst, with the bergamot. This is of course a perfect date night scent, but the idea behind it *as a date night scent* is not to spray tens or over twenty times to compensate for the poor longevity. You're supposed to spray just enough to create a subtle bubble of soothing, spicy warmness to draw your girl closer to you instead of repulse her by turning this into a projection monster. Projection wise, it’s not a fill the room scent. It is subtle, but still noticeable, to those in your immediate presence. The sillage starts off moderate, but goes light after about an hour or two. Don’t expect a powerhouse from this or the other scents in the L’Homme lineup of colognes. An amazing fragrance. This makes my skin chemistry heavenly. If I had to choose one winter/night time scent for the rest of my life, it would be this one. This leans 70% masculine, but it actually beats other masculine fragrances because its sweetness is more akin to an alcoholic drink rather than the safe and cloying caramel/vanilla that some other masculine scents constantly retreat into to appear nice. It also doesn't have that generic heavy quality that I've noticed in some highly masculine fragrances either, as it seems to fit my skin like an airy glove.

A true night-time scent - possibly year-round with milder application on a summer night, but absolutely do-able. Stunning, dark, sexy as hell and chic! Better for formal, but possible with up-scale casual attire. This can wear you, if you are not confident and know what you want out of "that night". If you are in a Nascar shirt and jeans shooting pool and wear this, you have offended this fragrance and the bottle should be taken away from you at once. LNDH is all about the soothing lavender and sweet, fizzy cardamom, held together by a dry woody undertone that lingers and becomes more prominent after the first two wear off. Slightly sweet, warm, woody, slightly spicy, and dry. Longevity is not the greatest, I get 3 hours at best, but the average projection will keep up for most of the duration of it.
