About this deal

Now it’s time to add in 2 wings – for the wings, I formed the shapes away from the Robin in my hands and then added them onto the Robin and felted them in place. Once the egg starts to form remove from the cookie cutter and hold in your hand and on the pad moving the egg around go in at angles at either end. Rotating the egg shape.

Our Felt Robin Christmas Ornament was inspired by a delight book by Jan Fearnley called Little Robin’s Christmas. We have a hamper full of books for Christmas and Advent and each year I update it and add new ones. Lay this sausage on the needle felting pad and using the needle felt it together. This was one of the hardest parts because of working with a much smaller size of an object. Here at Twinkl Crafts, we have heaps of Christmas craft ideas using felt. This sweet robin design is one of our favourites! We have kept our felt templates simple so they are easy to cut and sew, and you have plenty of opportunities to personalise the decorations. You can use decorative stitches, buttons, sequins, and smaller pieces of felt or fabric to make your bespoke robin design.

More Winter Birds and Nest Themed Books and Activities for Nature Based Learning Then I attached them to the robin by using some small pieces of brown wool roving. I just felted them on with the needle, no glue required! I followed the same process with the tail, after cutting out a sort of thin, long fan shape first.Unlike the American Robin, the British Robin is a colourful little bird who is a mainstay in our garden, fields, and towns throughout the year – they stake their territory and can be quite vicious to other robins that venture into the area.

Robins are very territorial birds. This means that they like to own their own space and keep intruders out. I love creating and making with kids and this year we are taking part again in Mam Miss’ Kid-Made Ornament series inspired by books. Last year we made a forest of Christmas Trees inspired by The Fir Tree. This year we have made felt robin christmas ornaments inspired by Little Robin’s Christmas by Jan Fearnley. Then start to stab. As you stab push the needle into all of the notches and then pull out in the same direction. In this post, I’ll explain the basics of needle felting and how I made my needle felted robin step by step. Here we go! What is needle felting? I continued to cover half of the “body” wool ball in the brown wool roving in this way by cutting off little pieces of the roving and needle felting them on. Then I decided to attach the robin’s head, also by using the brown wool roving. If you wanted to, you could glue the head and body wool balls together first, but I found I was able to attach the head to the body simply by using the barbed felting needle. Step 4Once the head was attached and covered in brown wool roving, I cut out some of the red wool roving in an oval shape. I laid this over the breast part of the robin’s body and also the face. Then I proceeded to attach the head by using the felting needle, stabbing it into the wool balls over and over until it took shape. Step 5 I’m really happy with the finished result, especially since this is my first attempt at needle felting. And I have to say that needle felting is a very therapeutic hobby, just stabbing fabric over and over again until it finally morphs into the shape that you want! Roll parts quite tightly before beginning to felt – trust me, this will greatly reduce your felting time

Start by taking your white wool roving and foam it into an egg shape to make the body of your Robin. I used the egg-shaped cookie cutter to help me make the form. We wanted our Robin’s to hand from our tree, so we added a small red ribbon at the top, We stitched it before moving on to the next step. If you enjoyed our robin crafts and activities for kids, we've also got great story map ideas for kids. Twinkl Kids TV or Twinkl Parents have many educational videos on various aspects of the school curriculum.Use the coupon: bookclub Pin this Needle Felting Project for your Winter Nature Table to Make Later For children that are more competent with a needle and thread then you could just pin the felt together and skip the glue altogether. To make these Christmas craft ideas using felt, start by cutting out the main robin template shape. Then place this template on brown or tan felt and draw around two robin outlines.
