Later, Casio decided to upgrade the DW-240 with some added features. This time, their target was to increase the battery life and durability while cutting down the price to even a lower point. The task was assigned to Ryusuke Moriai and he delivered the wonder watch in 1989. All I am trying to say is that, only a modded or an upgraded version of F 91W can replace the watch. I had to RTFM on setting the time and date, and most importantly turning off the alarm that sounds at some odd hour until this is done. A couple of other funky things to be aware of (believe it or not there are fakes of this watch out there): 1. press all the buttons together to display all the digits and 2. hold the bottom right button for 5 seconds for it to read “Casio”.

Casio’s F-91W is the standard watch. It is the horological equivalent of a Coca-Cola, the Big Mac of timepieces. It tells the time with no frills and no fuss. The diminutive Casio manages to be large enough to look good on a man’s wrist but small enough to fit a lady or a teenager without too much trouble. It has rudimentary water-resistance and can take a great deal of punishment. Most important of all, it is essentially maintenance-free and tells the time accurately. Okay, so it isn’t quite perfect…. I decided to buy a Casio F-91W at Walmart. Like the Timex Easy Reader, the watch is always available. No real or imagined shortages here; the Japanese watchmaker churns out three million pieces per year. The “dial” isn’t really one as such; but rather an LCD display. You’ve got to love it – it’s clear, crisp, and has everything you need at a glance: time (obviously), day and date. The electrodes of the LCD are super sharp, even under a macro lens.

There’s a 7-year battery life stated, but reports suggest it’s more like 10. It’s powered by another classic: the CR2016 battery. Easy to source. The upper left button, labeled "Light", turns on the light, cancels the alarm, resets the stopwatch or marks the split (lap) time, and is used for selecting settings. The right button, labeled "Alarm On-Off/24hr", is the function button: when used, it starts and stops the stopwatch, changes the settings currently being adjusted, or switches between the 12- and 24-hour modes, depending on what mode the watch is currently in. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will fill all the cells on the LCD until any button is pressed again. [10]
