About this deal

Who wouldn't when electing to enter an occupation known for miserably low pay and a notoriously high workload. When Joe Lynch stumbles across his wife driving into a hotel car park while she's supposed to be at work, he's intrigued enough to follow her in. I was lured into Joe's world from the first few chapters and the twists kept me absorbed until the end. Lies is fast-paced and filled with tension from start to finish, with twists and turns to keep you turning the pages.

Overall, this was fairly solid thriller but be prepared that you might get frustrated with the main character. Because these things didn’t drive the plot in any meaningful way, I assumed there must have been some purpose. I mean, it had been promised right on the cover, with a teaser line penned by the prolific Lee Child that read, “Compelling and hypotonic…with a twist I guarantee you won’t see coming. I do think the ending redeemed the story as I thought I had an idea where the story was going but my theory was not 100% accurate.Much of LIES develops as we would expect it to: in the fallout of this troubling encounter, Joe discovers that everything he holds dearest in his life might be based on (true to the book’s title!

Although the premise is pretty implausible, the story is still a fun ride that kept me guessing until the very end. At this point, Joe kinda comes to his senses and does what he should have done before — takes his son and tries to get the hell out of there. The response he gets is both aggressive and cryptic and, what was supposed to be a simple inquiry, quickly escalates into a conflict. Thinking he shouldn’t interrupt Joe retreats to the parking garage to catch her on the way out but when he misses her leaving he confronts Ben instead. Observant William insists that it indeed is his mother’s car, so Joe gives in to the little boy’s pleas to see her, telling William, “Let’s go and surprise Mummy. And he’s not moving… Gripping, unputdownable and packed with twists and turns from the first page to the very last, this stunning psychological thriller will make you question whether we can ever really trust the ones we love. And really, one of the greatest joys of crime fiction is being given those clues alongside the protagonist—the best books are just sly enough that you won’t figure the mystery out, even though the clues were there all along, but you’ll love each moment of the investigative process. Lies” is a mystery / suspense that will keep your head spinning faster than Linda Blair’s in the Exorcist.

All I'll say is that this is a brilliant novel and I have no reservations in highly recommending it!Logan does a great job dropping in enough red herrings to keep you on your toes and of course pointing your fingers in all directions! M. Logan just doesn’t quite make the cut; frankly, it doesn’t hold up against the numerous, expertly-plotted psychological thrillers that have released this year alone. Twisted, dark, heart-pounding, deceptive, distorted fun—do not start this book if you don’t have time to stay up late into the night reading it! I’m confident there will be many readers for whom the addictive pacing and easy-to-binge entertainment value of LIES will make it very well suited, I simply wasn’t one of them.
