About this deal

It's only when Frances is in the middle of her interview that she realizes that she doesn't actually care about studying English Literature and it all goes horribly. This is easily the best book I’ve read for Pride this year, and easily one of the best books I’ve read in all of 2018. If you want an academic review, I'll tell you AO uses her narrative devices selectively and skillfully.

Daniel was so focused on school that it wasn’t easy to see his true self but the longer I read the more I began to warm to him.

On the day of Frances' and Daniel's Cambridge interviews, their friend Raine skips school to drive them, and they all reflect on the purpose of the education system and on why Aled might be refusing to talk to them. The parallels are endless, and I’m not here to be negative about Fangirl, but I only thought that story was okay, where Radio Silence touched my heart and spoke to my soul. She was the total opposite of Aled’s mum and I really liked that parents weren’t just mentioned as a footnote in “Radio Silence” but actually were a part of their children’s lives!

When she finds out the creator of it, Aled, is the guy who lives across the road from her she ends up becoming really good friends with him and the two's worlds kind of collide.I mean I was never as good at school as her but I kind of admire her for getting good grades while following her obsession with “Radio Silence”. This is also a book that teens will not be talking about in ten years because none of it is of their time. I just couldn't relate at all to the storyline, and the overarching conflict of the characters not wanting to go to college ended up being so flat with such an easy solution--then don't? For Aled Universe City was something deeply personal and I loved the fact that ultimately he used it as a whole methaphor for his life.

Because school isn’t for everyone, and college isn’t for everyone, but validity and acceptance are for everyone. Frances and Aled’s friendship felt so much like me and a person I miss with all my heart’s friendship. Carys ran away from home after her year 11 results day, perhaps because of her poor relationship with her mum and her mum's reaction to her terrible grades. The story of this high-achieving teenage girl and her shy friend will help you to rediscover yourself. The world we live in constantly tells us how art should be a hobby, not a career, but when I sit back and think about the people who I admire most in the entire universe? She didn’t judge and let Frances figure out things for herself and most importantly: She accepted her the way she was!
