About this deal

Obviously, Young Adult books are THE best, but I do have a soft spot for poetry and adult books also. and okay, i could close my eyes if there at least was some build up, but there wasn’t and for me the build up of a relationship is the main thing in romance books. Some sadness and trauma from a past death in a car accident, which is briefly described without gore.

like girl, u just broke up with the guy u were for 4 motherfucking years and 7 days later u already in love with another one? Sex happens but is not described in detail, there are some good examples of asking and giving consent, and condom use is implied. The fun, happiness, focusing on working as truly functional family as their eyes on the prize perfectly balance with sadness and grief they feel inside. Overall, The Summer of Broken Rules waltzed into my life, and like in Assassin, shot me straight in the heart, putting me under it’s spell. This is YA and it definitely reads that way, there isn't a whole lot of substance but it gave REALLY good fluff and sometimes that exactly what you are looking for in a beach read. Throughout the week, Meredith reunites with both friends and family, but no one seems particularly happy to see her. If you have to (or just like to) listen to music while reading like I do, I am so happy you will get to experience this treat while reading, it's like pairing the perfect wine to go with each course of a long, fancy schmancy, DELICIOUS, meal!

But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game… and her heart. She and her family arrive at Martha’s Vineyard, and the bride announces to everyone that in honor of Claire’s memory, everyone will play Claire’s favorite game, Assassin, during the week of the wedding celebration. let me tell you, everyone is SO dramatic about this game that when someone is eliminated they take videos of it and make fun of the eliminated person, literally start debates if that kill can be counted according to rules… they are literally scared to go outside bc they are afraid to be eliminated. She shut people out just to be with Wit, and that is one of the worst things you could do to other people outside of your "relationship. I don't know how it happened, but after Wit and Meredith got closer MUCH faster than I would've liked, it just went downhill from there for me. It was lovely to see her grow, to see her take accountability for her own actions in the past with her friends, to see her try to live, as much as possible, as wildly, as happily as possible, too as the story goes on. To make matters worse, when he becomes her target, she’s conflicted on telling him the truth or keeping their holiday romance going.

Meredith meets Wit and, while their first encounter certainly isn’t the meet cute you’d expect, the rest of their relationship pretty much goes smoothly, their feelings catching on really, really fast. at first they were just kinda teammates in the assasin game and were just “messing” around with each other, but then the feelings appeared and bluh bluh bluh. Her family has a tradition of playing the ultimate game of Assassin every summer, and this year it will take place during the week of wedding festivities. That wasn't a bad thing but it took a few chapters for me to really understand what the point of this book was. If you're looking for something that has sugary sweet, with a sea salt caramel cupcake vibe, a la Emma Mills or Morgan Matson. In the case of this book, they became friends faster than expected, and not just that, but they were CLOSE friends. Her friends feel betrayed, believing that she abandoned them to be with her boyfriend while they all grieved Claire's death together, while her family simply misses the girl she used to be prior to the tragic event.
