About this deal

Overall, the Engine lineup is pretty easy to sort through. My default recommendation here is the PRIME 4 and, in fact, it’s my top overall recommendation for a standalone DJ system excluding any other factors. Some promoters or other DJs may even look down on or ban the use of a laptop during sets. I think this type of attitude has no place in DJ culture. The average punter doesn’t care. No The knobs are so loose they fall of , a lot of them currently 6 knobs and one fader knob thingy is gone (I know easy to replace but I'm broke af)

Also, it’s worth mentioning that a handful of DJ controllers these days also have onboard screens, so this isn’t entirely a benefit of “standalones”. That being said, many DJs I’ve talked to over the past few years cite this as a reason they like these devices… it keeps the laptop out of the performer’s face, and the crowd’s too. Before You Buy The newly released Engine DJ 2.0 Firmware update brings an overhauled database, new Engine Lighting by SoundSwitch and all-new Ableton Link Wireless communication connection. In addition to the new features, there are several improvements and fixes to issues brought to Denon DJs attention. The latest update is available in two formats, one for the Operating System itself and the other for the Desktop platform, where both have been designed for a faster and more streamlined approach. Outside of a single AUX input, there are no connections for external devices. This is meant to be an “in the box” device, so you won’t find RCA ports for turntables or CDJs. You can use it with your laptop as a controller, but only with Rekordbox in performance mode… there’s no Serato this time. A couple single tones also don’t tell you how low the nonlinear distortion harmonics are. Hint, they’re nonlinear because their ‘multiple’ changes as the fundamental changes. They expand or squeeze as the sweep progresses. You have to do a complete sweep and look at the real time FFT. This can be recorded in a video. His single pic does demonstrate the possibility the GO’s overall harmonic distortion from audio processing is lower than the last time I tested the standalone players, though, but doesn’t fully demonstrate it. For a Pioneer CDJ-esque experience, default to the XDJ-RX3. These RX setups have already proven themselves, the RX2 being notably popular. With the RX3 being the newest in the lineup, it has the newest features.

This is a new category of product, and I’m not sure where it will settle at this stage. Certainly many DJs will look at it and think “I want one!”– there is nothing else like it out there at all. If you are an existing DJ that uses a controller the transition to an all-in-one system comes with both pros and cons. It is also a great choice for mobile DJs that have ambitions of eventually playing clubs. Its only major fault is the restriction to 2 channels in standalone mode but for most this shouldn’t be an issue.

To take advantage of these new features and enhancements, ensure your software is up-to-date with this latest 2.4 version. New Engine DJ 2.0 Firmware Update It will be interesting to see how well this does. I suspect it will carve a niche for itself, because certainly at first play, it seems it does all it sets out to do well – and ultimately, it’s an awful lot of fun. Full 4-Channel Standalone – Unlike previous Pioneer offerings the OPUS-QUAD offers full 4-channel standalone capability. An excellent option for Pioneer fans that want access to all 4 channels without the need for a laptop. Good Built Quality – Despite a plastic build the Denon SC Live 2 is a tough controller that can handle the rigors of frequent use.In terms of audio quality, the PRIME-GO DJ Console doesn't compromise. With 24bit/48kHz capability and balanced XLR and TRS master and booth outputs, you are more than flexible enough for a mobile gig or house party. Denon's Prime Go DJ Controller even lets you use your mobile data to stream music from a streaming platform of your choice. TIDAL is the first compatible streaming service, although a firmware update will add more streaming services. Endless creative mixing possibilities Denon DJ's Prime GO is the ultimate solution for DJs that want the ability to perform anywhere without compromising on next-generation digital DJ technology. This Smart 2-Channel DJ Console comes with the ultra-fast Engine OS software and is powered by a rechargeable battery. Add in WiFi capability and standalone music streaming functionality, and you have a controller that is perfect for pool, beach, and other outdoor parties. Industry-Standard Quality, Anywhere! The big beautiful screen, the on-jog displays, and the user interface are all on-par with the current flagship hardware. Other than a combined display and slightly smaller jog wheels, it’s hard to differentiate them from a CDJ-3000 and 900NXS2 setup. Good Connections –Balanced XLR output and balanced Booth output enable this controller to be used for professional applications. Dual microphones are another added benefit. Standalone systems are also much more similar to what one will encounter out in the wild, when playing on flagship DJ players like the CDJ-3000. You (or your friends) need only to plug in a Rekordbox or Engine-prepped library on a USB drive, and you’re off to the races.

Club Inspired –The XDJ XZ offers DJs a club layout that is hard to beat. Everything is where you would expect it to be. An excellent transition device if you want to practice club sets in your studio. I am not one for audio specifications. I use my ears. And this thing sounds great. We have used it with portable speakers, and studio speakers (my favourite current monitors, the iRig iLoud MTM), and PA speakers. The audio quality from its audio interface is excellent – detailed and crisp. The explosion in quality all-in-one DJ controllers over the last few years is a fantastic development. There are several excellent options available that can finally remove you from staring at the laptop. Analogue Output: Master, Balanced +18dBu (maximum) +4dBu (unity) Master, Unbalanced +15dBu (maximum) 0dBu (unity) Booth +18dBu (maximum) +4dBu (unity) Headphone Output < 40mWThe XDJ-RR is probably the closest thing you’ll find to “a value” in regards to Pioneer gear. Of course, at half the price of the RX3, this does come along with some compromise. Excellent FX Options – Beyond the expressive Sound Color and Beat FX, you’ll also have added flexibility to use the touchscreen to control FX using an XY Pad. Fun, expressive, and responsive. Mobile DJ Friendly –Considering the number of features included, the unit is still lightweight. Mobile DJs will appreciate the size of the unit as well. While large, it’s still very portable.

Just because it’s small and portable, doesn’t make it a toy. The Prime GO has professional connectivity to match high end machines. Balanced XLR outputs, 2 balanced mic inputs and even a blanked booth out let you connect to pro gear, all the time. There are two main contenders in this department… Rekordbox (for the Pioneer controllers), and Engine for the rest. Rekordbox vs. Engine OS Last but not least, you have four performance pads that will trigger cue points, saved loops, auto loops, and roll functions. The pads are easily toggled to another four sets of functionality using the shift key, for eight total. Simply meaning that you have a total of 8 pads total for cue points, auto loop length, saved loops, and roll lengths.

Run your DMX light show directly from the Prime GO once you have synchronised with SoundSwitch. You can also sync Philips Hue and Nano-Leaf lights with the Prime GO with no software or programming required.
