A gang of space villains, led by the evil Von Nebula, are some of the most feared beings in the galaxy, and are the main antagonists of the story for 2010. While all of the heroes are distracted by the escapes, Black Phantom stays behind to destroy the Hero Factory assembly tower. Stormer apprehends Fire Lord, and Surge jumps out of the ship, telling the others how he took control of it. The Heroes rush to find a cure after Preston Stormer is hit by Meltdown's fast-acting toxin while investigating a distress signal on a prison planet. This attitude occasionally annoys his teammates, but helps him in dealing with the stressful situations they get into.

Surge also struggles with fears that he is secretly evil and will become a villain, like Von Nebula. It includes the hero Duncan Bulk, and the villain Vapour, with both figures being around 15 cm (6") tall. The story is not finished when Hero Factory got cancelled in 2014, and it has many unresolved things. An unprecedented jailbreak occurs in the Hero Factory, releasing every known captive villain into the galaxy who begin spreading chaos and destruction everywhere. Quadal is able to easily make use of technology, and is also talented in the field of numeric sequencing.

The colour scheme of the heroes and villains (red, blue, white, black, green, brown) was not continued in the Hero Factory theme, instead, colours like silver, gold, orange, and yellow were reintroduced. The Hero Factory sets were designed to be smaller and simpler than the previous BIONICLE ones, and the story was made into an episodic format, with single stories not connected to one another. The main characters are a group of heroes that make up Team Alpha 1, the Hero Factory's most successful and praised team. sets also pair Heroes and villains to create new combi-models, though these all feature as upgraded Hero designs, utilizing Hero Cores and helmets.The Winter releases were 44000 Furno XL, 44004 Bulk, 44002 Rocka, 44006 Breez, 44003 Scarox, 44001 Pyrox, 44005 Bruizer, and 44007 Ogrum, with 44008 Surge, 44010 Stormer, 44012 Evo, and 44014 Jet Rocka, 44009 Dragon Bolt, 44011 Frost Beast, and 44013 Aquagon being released in the summer. Although he has dealt with this fear directly over the course of his Hero career, Surge still deals with the insecurity, and often throws himself into action to compensate.
