“The 4 Types of Scenes Improv Teachers Don’t Want You to Know About!” - (Position Play)While it can be easy to diagnose what is working and not working from the comfort of the audience, as a performer it's often difficult to determine what is making a scene work or not work while we are in it.Position Play is a powerful approach to improvising that enables performers to make strong choices that can be the difference between whether a scene works for the audience or not. It also allows performers to diagnose why a scene may not be working and what can be done to focus the performance while on stage. Originally created by the Pack Theatre’s Miles Stroth and refined by Brian O’Connell, Position Play breaks scene work down into four types, giving performers a simple tool to create more engaging scenes whether the goal is comedy or drama.Learning Outcomes- The ability to identify and demonstrate each of the four scene types- Diagnose scenes to determine why a scene is working or not working- Bring stronger choices and emotional connections to performance- Learn to embrace silence, pace and deeper emotion to enrich sceneworkNeil has been teaching and performing improv both in Ireland and abroad for many years.
