About this deal

In her words Mia has said, “I am excited about this”, “Becoming an Ambassador for A Stroke of Luck beats any achievement”. Despite having this life-changing condition, Mia refused to give up and focused on living her life to the fullest, while also helping others. Mia suffered a stroke aged 21 after collapsing in the middle of the night despite being perfectly healthy.

Mia continued to undertake charity work, including sleeping on the streets of Liverpool to raise money and awareness of homelessness.Mia has touched the lives of thousands of people and the World is worse off for not having her in it. Your experience within the NHS sent shivers through me as I have battled through exactly the same experiences with varying staff and carers.

She was a party animal before her incident but she doesn’t let it stop her doing anything now, either - she doesn’t class herself as disabled.

Since her diagnosis the travel industry charity Abta LifeLine was involved in helping to support Mia through fundraising for a specially-adapted car. Although Austin’s education in the forward line has been enhanced by her experienced teammates, the young spearhead has seen her time under forwards coach Christina Polatajko as impactful, both as a player and as a person. Mrs Austin told the inquest at Caernarfon that, after her daughter's stroke, she was fed a liquid diet but had progressed to eating soft food over the years. When Mia turned up at the Diner she was all dressed up and immediately started flirting with Roman to make him have lunch with her.

Mia Austin, 29, from Bebington defied the odds after being diagnosed with locked-in syndrome in 2009. Heartbreakingly, Mia passed away on Wednesday, June 26 - just two days before she was named Merseyside's Woman of the Year. A young woman choked to death on a marshmallow after trying to copy a challenge on TV's Love Island, an inquest heard. A woman with locked-in syndrome choked to death after trying to emulate the “ marshmallow challenge” made famous on Love Island.

She could have gave up but didn’t and shows us really that you think you have problems but you don’t. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It is obviously a very sad time for us, but we are so happy that she succeeded in her efforts and we wish Laura the very best of luck in role as co-Merseyside Woman of the Year. While holidaying at the park in Abersoch in June this year, Ms Austin indicated to her mother and carer she wanted to eat a marshmallow. The hearing was told Mia had been fit and healthy before suffering her stroke and had subsequently learned to communicate through a spell chart and a computer.
