About this deal

We reviewed the House of Marley Stir It Up Turntable so that you can find out what makes this record player awesome, some things we would change, and share some other insights into this sleek and beautiful vinyl player.

While you may still sleep easier at night knowing you’ve spent your money on a quality, eco-friendly product — and hats off to House of Marley for being one of few audio companies making this a priority — are the upgrades worth the extra dollars? Like all house of Marley products, the new Stir It Up wireless turntable checks off a lot of boxes in terms of green cred. It looks cool and I want to show it off, but I also don’t want it to get dusty (it would be a pain to dust). That said, I thought the Lux sounded rich, clear, and warm through the Sonos Era 300 speaker over Bluetooth, even if it did seem to remove some of that nice vinyl crackle, which many listeners might like. I have both the House of Marley and a Pro-ject Primary E and would say the HoM is the better sounding, despite the PJ getting all the plaudits review wise.

The dial has a red light around it when it's simply on, then a blinking blue light when you activate pairing mode, and a solid blue ring when it's paired.

The bamboo plinth and glass platter enhance audio performance, while the double-sided cork slipmat adds a touch of playful colour. House of Marley's eco-conscious identity was created in collaboration with the Marley family to carry on Bob Marley's legacy of love for music and planet. Everything is handily packed in recycled, molded cardboard inserts that keep all the delicate parts protected.

It’s a turntable that can be connected in one of three ways; USB, traditional phono out, and Bluetooth! Setting up the turntable for the first time is pretty straightforward; simply attach the belt, drop the platter on to the spindle and attach the counterweight to the tonearm, and you'll be reggae to go. The colorful cork mat, aside from helping further reduce resonance, promised “an unexpected animation that elevates your vinyl experience” with images of Bob Marley and trippy designs animating before your eyes.

Ensure that the audio playback device is close enough to the Stir It Up Wireless turntable to ensure a stable connection. The slipmats and feed are made of the company’s Regrind silicone, which is manufactured from reclaimed manufacturing scraps that might otherwise go into a dumpster. The dust cover and power cables use the company’s Rewind fabric, made from 30 percent reclaimed organic cotton, 30 percent reclaimed hemp, and 40 percent recycled PET polyester. The included instructions offer two options for balancing it: using the included stylus pressure gauge, or using your eye to make the tonearm parallel with the platter.

House of Marley also bundles the Stir It Up Lux with smaller bookshelf speakers if you want to purchase both the turntable and speakers in one go. Lifting the tonearm into place sets the glass platter spinning, and I was impressed at how fast it gets up to speed — it’s on par with many direct-drive turntables I’ve used. We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. The trickiest part of setting up the bamboo and black-glass turntable was getting the tonearm balanced. Turn on the Bluetooth (there’s a button near the speed switch), press the button to seek, bring a Bluetooth device in pairing mode near to the turntable, and let them connect.

As you would hope with a brand focusing on sustainability, there is pleasingly little plastic involved. The House of Marley Stir it Up has consistently, and comfortably, lived in this echelon for years, and the Lux continues the tradition with a solid-sounding, easy-to-setup and use turntable with standout looks and all kinds of connectivity options that make it perfect for beginners and beyond. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy and Cookie Statement and Your California Privacy Rights. Its anti-skating feature ensures the stylus stays true to the grooves of the record, preventing potential damage.I ‘upgraded’ about a year ago from a suitcase to an ION iT TUSB05 my dad used to own - other than the fact it has a 12” platter there’s no real benefits over the suitcase, but at least warping is one less thing to worry about. House of Marley has managed to build a company that promotes an eco-friendly philosophy while delivering audio quality that’s probably better than it needs to be to succeed in the market. Pair the Stir It Up Wireless Turntable with any Bluetooth speaker for a sleek and easy listening experience. Glass is heavier and denser than aluminum (the overall weight of the turntable has jumped from 9 pounds to 10 pounds total), and also better qulity, much like the glass and acrylic platters on higher-end turntables.
