About this deal

One thing that really strikes me and is very evident is the pay and resource difference between the male and female players.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. Beth Mead is one of the world's most talented footballers - Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or. From being placed in the local boys' team as a child because her mum wanted her to run off her boundless energy to joining Middlesbrough FC's Centre of Excellence and making her professional debut at Sunderland, Beth and women's football have come a long way. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger – from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news, to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman.Just like Megan Rapinoe’s One Life, this was a great insight into what it’s actually like for female footballers, but this time from a British perspective. During the retelling of each game, I watched the highlights on YouTube, watching it with fresh eyes, now knowing what was said in the changing rooms, in the tunnel, on the pitch, shouted between players after a goal.

So is being a non football fan in London is hard being a female footballer is a billion times more difficult, which is what makes Beth and the other Lioness' story even more incredible. It wasn’t until the Lionesses started winning in the Euros that I started watching their training and interviews on YouTube - something that I do regularly with the men even though they share the “England” channel. It was so fascinating to revisit the Euros but from Beth’s perspective, finding out what exactly was going on in the background of the very games I watched on TV. I feel like I learnt a lot about professional football and what it entails and it has only increased my respect for professional footballers. First Sentence chapter 6: „I probably should have realised that I was gay a little bit sooner than I did.knowing that beth, someone who i look up to is currently going through the same thing as me, made me feel so much less alone. There might be some things that were lacking in some areas—writing, characterisation, plot etc, but there may have been a few moments that I liked. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England’s triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. She was the top goalscorer in the UEFA Women's Euro 2022, which saw England crowned champions - their first international trophy since the 1966 Men's FIFA World Cup. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England's triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory. Beth takes a dive into her own personal life and what has happened over her career which helps her strive to be the best player, she takes difficult events in her life and uses them to power her mentality for the game. Unlike some memoirs, at no point did I feel like I was waiting to get to a more interesting bit, not one part felt drawn out.

She was also named Player of the Tournament and has since won England Women's Player of the Year, the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022 and been named runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Feminin. This helps to shed light on the difficulties so many of our top players have faced to make it to where they are now in football. It’s important and powerful that Beth talked about how she realised she was gay, shares some of her relationship stories and mentions the difference in LGB+ acceptance between the men’s and women’s game.
