In 1975, Dorsch—then a Chicago police officer—observed Gacy (whom he knew on a casual basis) holding a shovel in the early morning. He lived there until his arrest in December 1978 and, according to Gacy, committed all his murders there. Gacy invited Butkovich into his car, then invited him back to his home, ostensibly to settle the issue of his overdue wages.
