The drawer pulls out a little swiftly, so you’ll need to be mindful when taking food out, but I can tell the design is made from quality materials and built to last. All other things being equal, it is still cheaper to cook with gas, which at the time of writing cost 7p per kiloWatt hour, although the size and age of your gas oven may make still make it less efficient than the best modern air fryers. Our chips were a pale golden colour after 25 mins at 190C (using the 'fries' preset), and had a fluffy middle and crisp, well-sealed exterior. Despite being a budget-friendly option, the T17023 was no slouch in testing, cooking oven classics such as spring rolls and hash browns to a commendable crispness and performing solidly when tasked with more delicate items like meat and vegetables.A sturdy, no-frills option, the T17023 is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a cheap, compact and easy-to-use air fryer. There’s no doubt that Tefal’s Genius range is expensive, but you really won’t find a line of air fryers that do the job better. The outside of the appliance stayed cool during cooking and, overall, it was easy to use thanks to clear instructions and recipes. Note, the manual doesn’t make clear that to start cooking you need to press the buttons twice, but this qualm aside, we’d happily declare this a multi-tasking master chef. It was hard to resist the temptation to peek at our first batch of chips as they cooked inside the Dual Blaze, but the dual heating element really impressed us, turning out evenly crisp golden fries and perfectly cooked thick-cut chips.
