About this deal

Great book that shows even the fiercest warrior can get seasick and just because you look tough doesn’t mean you have to act tough all the time. In fact, he was a little timid and worried a lot--and what worried him the most was going to sea for the very first time.

Unlike his dad, Stoick the Vast, Hiccup is tiny, thoughtful and polite and scared of almost everything - especially of going to sea for the very first time. However, I wish that the book showed more of an internal struggle or hero-moment when Hiccup makes the decision to take charge. It's a sweet read, has some excellent lessons, and makes for an interesting early insight into how Hiccup differs from the rest of the vikings, even as a little boy. Hiccup, The Viking who was Seasick (also titled Hiccup the Seasick Viking in 2000) is a large book designed for small children.Poor little Hiccup--he doesn't exactly fit in to everyone's idea of the big and fearsome Viking, with his tiny frame and delicate, polite attitude. The art is adorable and there is no way to describe how you feel when you first see the characters that make up so much of the How to Train Your Dragon series. Also the author of picture books, Cressida has won the Nestle Children's Book Prize 2006 and has been shortlisted for many others. It tells the story of Hiccup's childhood and if you read it then you will probably understand the How To Train Your Dragon series a little but more. This is a lovely book; it is warm and witty, with instant appeal and the deft touch we have come to expect from Cressida Cowell.

I'm so glad I found this little story on YouTube before starting my journey with this series (which I just received in the mail today). The other Viking children mock him all the time, and won't let him join in with their rough-and-tumble games because they know he is frightened of everything from spiders to thunder. I'd looked for this in the past, so the library must have gotten in over the last year or something. So who will save the day when everything goes disgustingly wrong aboard ship and all the big Vikings lose their cool? This is a perfect picture book for all children aged between three and six who love Vikings and watching grown-ups come unstuck! Cute prequel to the How to Train Your Dragon Series; a good book for children who are shy, reluctant, or apprehensive about trying new things, to encourage them to face their fears and gain strength and courage from experiences. I just didn't feel like Hiccup's "fear" of the sea was explored much, even though that was the major plot point, besides being seasick. The Vikings are lost in a terrible storm, and it's up to Hiccup to help them find their way home again.

An enjoyable book pitched at a much younger audience than ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ but with the same feel.Stoick and Hiccup greet Old Wrinkly on the shore and all realize that yes, Vikings sometimes get scared, but they deal with it, which is what Bravery is. She has a BA in English Literature from Oxford University, a BA in Graphic Design from St Martin's and an MA in Narrative Illustration from Brighton. But his biggest fear is having to go to sea, and with the inevitable first voyage fast approaching, Hiccup is very worried indeed. Some may think that children's books are too small, simple, and menial to have an "Art," but that is just not true. Hiccup, afraid of going to sea with his heroic viking father, Stoick the Vast, learns all of this from his seafaring adventure.

It was later published in the United States in 2014 under the title How to Be a Viking, by Little, Brown and Company. There is a nice author's note at the beginning where Cowell talks about her relationship with her own larger-than-life, fearless father and how he inspired her writing. The whole thing has enough breezy, tongue-in-cheek energy to make this not only one of the more invigorating accounts of dealing with fear but also a humorously offbeat swashbuckler. I suppose the trip is supposed to show how Hiccup overcomes his fear; that although scared, he steers the ship back to safety when others aren't able to. My son absolutely loves the How To Train Your Dragon movies and he finally decided that he wanted us to read the books together.

He advises Hiccup to find out if Vikings really don't get scared and to try and see that the sea is a dangerous place, but can be wonderful. Simpatična pričica koja je svojevrsni prequel knjizi Kako izdresirati zmaja, u kojoj upoznajemo Štucavca dok je još bio mali Viking kojeg je bilo strah ploviti morem. Featuring the beloved main character from the celebrated How to Train Your Dragon series, here's an exciting adventure that shows what it really means to be brave.
