About this deal

I had a POD, POD2, POD XT and most recently I had a POD HD500x which cost twice as much and was kind of OK, but all the tones had this horrible digital fizz as the note decays which started to really annoy me.

It is monophonic (one note at a time), and it is quite slow : there is a notable delay between the time you hit the string and the emission of the midi note. Like the GT-100, the GT-001 offers powerful sound creation possibilities with dual amps and effects chains and flexible routing options. Clean, semi and a couple of the Van Halen sorta ones…I can adjust to my liking…to me it sounds killer through my crappy little home setup and does absolutely everything I need it to do for practicing. On an acoustic, the saddle is cut to the correct height making sure the bottom is 100% flat and straight.Under the hood of the GT-001's stylish, streamlined body is a full-featured BOSS multi-effects processor with premium tone. Specially designed for the home and studio guitarist it contains the guitar amps and effects of the GT-100 Version 2. You might not be though, and it’s going to come down to how much experience and creativity you have with the effects chain. I did however spend some time with the GT Tone Studio doing some basic tweaks on all of the patches to make them more “synthesizer” friendly.

If you’re totally new to USB recording, digital FX in general, or just want a “plug and play” solution to make some noise, the GT-001 definitely isn’t a good choice. We don't want any high or low spots as this will mean your guitar will need a higher than optimum action and potentially suffer with fret buzz. Not only great as a dedicated guitar multi-effects unit, the GT-001 also functions as a USB audio/MIDI interface. Choosing effects and parameters to edit is simple, but the software editor is the smart way to go if you are connected to a computer. If you just want access to the GT's modelled sounds without having a large floorpedal, Boss has introduced the GT-001, which takes all of the amps and effects found in the flagship GT-100 Version 2. Luckily, since it’s a USB 2 connection, you know it’s not going to be drawing a huge amount of power.

Much of his working life, though, has been spent behind the mixing desk, during which time he has built up a solid collection of the guitars, amps and pedals needed to cover just about any studio session. It’s important to note that hugely influential music of this type was made in spite of the limitations of digital effects, not because of how they could stand in for their real-world counterparts. It's easy to capture great amp and effects tones directly into your DAW, and four audio channels provide lots of flexibility for recording, re-amping, and mixing. It is an invaluable addition to their home studio and includes some nice envelope effects, such as the Defretter. But, to make another Steam comparison, this software will be installed for you or you will at least be told where to get the software. Under the hood of the GT-001’s stylish, streamlined body is a full-featured BOSS multi-effects processor with premium tone.
