About this deal

Beau Is Afraid began life as a short film that Aster made in 2011, in which the late Billy Mayo played a man attempting to exit his apartment who leaves the keys in the front door, only for them to disappear – with creepy consequences. You get a pretty stark taste of this in the trailer below, which gets is pretty grim at times, despite its lighter notes. The movie itself does have English soundtrack etc but it wasn't really made clear that it wasn't an English version of the movie. A Lynchian second chapter moves from the city to the suburbs, as a wounded Beau finds himself recuperating in the comfortable home of an over-friendly surgeon (Nathan Lane), his uneasy wife (Amy Ryan), and his resentful teenage daughter (Kylie Rogers).

Beau Is Afraid is reminiscent of two other recent extravaganzas with comparable eccentricities and running times (and the same first letter), Alejandro G Iñárritu's Bardo and Damien Chazelle's Babylon. Beau est un homme dans la quarantaine qui vit seul, tiraillé entre ses séances chez le psy et ses médicaments censés atténuer ses crises. However, we can take a lot from the trailer and Ari Aster’s previous films, Midsommar and Hereditary.

Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 63 out of 100, based on 51 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. If you’ve seen either of these then you should know to expect things to veer into pretty horrific moment from time to time. Manohla Dargis of the New York Times wrote that the film was "a supersized, fitfully amusing, self-important tale of fear and loathing," and chastised the run-time by saying, "It's a journey; midway, it becomes a slog.

a funeral caterer’s van bears the legend “Shiva Steve’s Grub for the Grieved”), there’s more than enough absurdist madness here to delight, infuriate and exasperate in equal measure. Cohen, who chastises him and informs Beau that despite the Jewish custom to lay the body to rest as soon as possible, her last wish was not to be buried until he was present. He is invited to their rehearsal and becomes entranced by the play, imagining himself as the protagonist, who spends his entire life looking for his family after they are separated by a flood. Made like a comedy, even if it runs like a horror, Beau Is Afraid almost challenges you to laugh even when you feel like crying. Beau Is Afraid' Trailer, Release Date: Joaquin Phoenix Journeys Through Surreal Mixed-Media Landscape In Ari Aster's Third Feature For A24".At its best it combines the exuberantly manic energy of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch-Drunk Love with the nightmare logic of David Lynch’s Eraserhead, while at its most tiresome it has tinges of Charlie Kaufman’s painfully contrived Synecdoche, New York.
