About this deal

A notable standout among those more true-to-source tracks is his Duran Duran cut, “Ordinary World,” in which he hews close to the original but runs with the opportunity to flex his incredible vocal range. I’ve done that on Idol, obviously… and Queen is essentially sort of a covers situation, even though I’m in the band. Lambert: Yeah, like I said, I think the arts are the biggest tool to push and effect and flip pop culture. Mike has contributed to a number of digital music podcasts and publications including the Rock’N Vino Podcast and The Download Parlor. Tracks like "Holding Out For A Hero," the Bonnie Tyler '80s classic, and Sia's hit "Chandelier" ooze Lambert's rocket-high falsettos and thunderous instrumentation. One of the coolest takes on the record is Lambert’s spin on “I Can’t Stand the Rain,” a song made famous by the legendary Tina Turner. You hear people criticize it, likely not part of the community saying things like, "Why does it have to be all about that? Renowned for re-imagining songs from American Idol to his stirring viral hit with Cher's 'Believe', Adam Lambert - the Grammy-nominated pop icon, LGBTQ trailblazer and Queen frontman - brings you 'High Drama', a wonderfully diverse collection of covers with a twist, held together by Adam's once-in-a-generation voice and trademark flair. As wild as this is to say, Lambert might've been a more effective interpreter back in the days of the competition and restrictions of American Idol. Arguably his boldest choice on the album is his reimagining of “Sex on Fire” as a sweaty, gratuitous dancefloor anthem. It’s a lot of rock music, a lot of music from the ‘70s, but the process of putting a musical together is a longer timeline. Baltin: I love "My Attic" because it's such a beautiful song, but I love songs that really speak with simplicity.

The book she's writing happens to be the nonfiction best-seller that inspired this film: Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent, by Isabel Wilkerson. The all-fabulous star takes the liberties he should, like when inserting mind-hijacking dance beats to songs such as "Sex On Fire. While we absolutely need someone to bring us glam rock stump and queer dance pop, Lambert's once in a generation voice is capable of so much more. Songs range from the more recent, Pink’s ‘My Attic’, Billie Eilish’s ‘Getting Older’, an epic rock re-imagining of Lana Del Rey’s ‘West Coast’, to the beautiful interpretation of Noel Coward’s classic ‘Mad About The Boy’. And I think the other mission on this album was not only to kind of create this rock star sonic atmosphere, but hopefully I'm also sharing my voice with people. There’s nothing really wrong with that approach, which gives us safe-but-solid versions of Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast” and Pink’s “My Attic,” two songs where he avoids diverging much from the originals. And Julia Michaels and Ilsey Juber and Freddie Wexler wrote that song, and I actually heard the demo years ago before Pink recorded it.
