About this deal

To create unique spirit, Andrew took his silky, rich, Aberdeenshire Foraged Gin, and matured it for 7 months in a sweet vermouth cask. Using the scan yer dram QR code on our bottles of Aberdeenshire Foraged Gin, we'll venture out onto the farm and into the woods to visit the exact locations of each of the grown and foraged ingredients in that specific bottle. Coleridge, however, immediately spotted that there had been two infringements of the law - first that under the British legislation of 1876, the Cruelty to Animals Act, an animal may not be used for more that one experiment; second that for lecture demonstrations, which require a special certificate, anaesthesia was mandatory. The distillery collaborated with Cove Park and the Cove Sailing Club as part of the Dandelion unexpected garden project, a "grow your own" initiative which invites everyone to sow, grow and share, food, music, knowledge and ideas.

We're not sure we've ever seen parsnip in a gin before, though it adds some earthy, sweet and spicy notes, so we're certainly here for it. Little Brown Dog Spirits is one of the most interesting of the new wave of Scottish independent distillers and bottlers that have sprung up in recent times. A barrister by profession, Coleridge came from a distinguished family, which had connections with many influential people. Transparent production methods and a commitment to sharing how they make the tasty things in as detailed a way as possible. The original LBD, Banksy, sadly passed away in 2022 and was commemorated by an outstanding cask strength peated Ardnamurchan from a refill Oloroso sherry cask. However, after speaking to the two policemen who were on duty guarding the memorial, it became clear to Ford that this seemingly peaceful spot had turned into a battlefield. It described how the supposedly serious business of vivisection demonstrations in medical schools were often no more than entertainments. On Thursday, December 12 1985, the NAVS erected a statue of a little brown dog in Battersea Park, London, to commemorate the suffering of millions of laboratory animals worldwide, but also, to ensure that the suffering of one dog is never forgotten. Coleridge examined their material and was particularly struck by the evidence presented in a chapter entitled ‘Fun’ - in a later edition of ‘The Shambles of Science’ it was given the heading ‘The Vivisections of the Brown Dog’.

Part of the distillery's Experimental Spirit Series, this is cask strength, single cask, non chill filtered, natural colour, no added nothing, single cask gin. The press itself was divided on the verdict - ‘The Times’ upheld the decision of the court; ‘The Daily News’, along with other newspapers and journals, described it as a miscarriage of justice.

Thanks to the distillation process the gin manages to capture both bold and delicate flavours in the same sip, with a well balanced flavour profile that excites and entices. Bayliss was a permissible way of destroying it and, for this fact to be established, evidence was required to prove that the dog had been properly anaesthetised during the lecture demonstration. Whether you're a spirits enthusiast or simply curious about the art of distillation, this event promises to be an exciting and educational experience.

We recommend sensible footwear, weather appropriate clothing, the what3words app installed on your phone and an appetite for intense geekery! Paula Owen looks afresh to tell this story through the eyes of two thoroughly modern Edwardian young women of very different means and backgrounds, imagined protagonists in a retelling of what pitted the Londoner against Londoner whatever their background or gender.

The story of the Brown Dog and his memorial goes back to December 1902, when Professor Starling at University College London performed his first operation on the terrier dog, depriving it of the use of its pancreas. Bayliss, who made a completely new wound in the neck for the purpose of a lecture demonstration to students.

Her first, Decommissioning the Brent Spar, was released over twenty years ago, and is the key source reference material for a forthcoming TV drama series. This is a book that kept me engaged through its twists and turns to the tantalising last page, taking me through familiar streets, squares and buildings of London but placing me into the heart of unfamiliar but historic events. Successive goverments have protected laboratory workers from public scrutiny and public accountability. A further appeal was made to raise money for the monument, largely organised through the efforts of Miss Woodward, founder of the World League against Vivisection and Honorary Secretary of the International Anti-Vivisection Council, the society which presented the memorial to Battersea.
