The Notebook is somewhat feature-rich and has a brushed metal looking casewrap, black book edges, a pen loop, two ribbon/bookmarks, an elastic band and a back pocket. Tomoe River paper has become a staple amongst the community for its unique characteristics and notable friendliness to fountain pen ink. This set is a limited edition created to commemorate Midori's 70th Anniversary, with each Notebook featuring a different colour thread binding and matching 5mm grid lining in brown, red, green, light blue, purple, yellow and dark blue.

We go to great lengths to bring you the brands we know you love and we've been happily doing this since the very beginning of our journey. The shading is decent with moderate frequency but sudden gradients and high contrast (the high contrast exaggerated by the sheen). It has a tiny amount of feedback that keeps you connected with the paper but is otherwise well lubricated and quite smooth.

It has some texture, but not a lot; it has decent sheen, but nothing extreme; it has good shading and isn’t flat; dry time isn’t super quick, but it isn’t slow. The finial of the barrel has O sharpe moulded into it and the finial of the cap is a simple smooth rounded piece of metal. Light watercolor washes also work without the paper pilling, though the paper will crinkle as it absorbs water. This means that the paper doesn’t quite handle Pushkin as well as Tomoe River (52gsm ro 68gsm) but still isn’t bad.

The packaging describes it as “Medium thickness - ideal for everyday writing such as diaries, letters and sketching your ideas”.The choice of pen (be that Safari, AL-Star, Vista, Joy or Studio) will have little impact in the writing performance. You can also use them to cover up mistakes in your MD Notebook by sticking them down with glue or glue tape. Hopefully this comparison between new and old 52gsm Ivory (off white) and Cream Tomoe River Paper will be helpful. The grid type has 5mm squares with gaps in between, like the old genko yoshi used for writing in Japan.
