But more on that in a moment. Audio on the Extended Blu-rays is available in English Dolby Atmos (7.1 Dolby TrueHD compatible), French 6.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, and Polish Lektor 5.1 Dolby Digital, with optional subtitles available in English for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, French, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, and Swedish. It appears that there are also subtitles for the commentaries in English, French, Dutch, and Korean. As the saying goes, patience pays off, and we were joyful when we could once again amass a collection of DVDs. The delight I witnessed when I surprised my husband with this special edition of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy cannot be adequately put into words.

The expanded color range on the 4k Blu-ray presentation of LOTR is incredible, with luminance levels unparalleled in scenes like the opening of the Trilogy at the battle of Mordor where the One Ring glows amidst a dark army of Sauron’s forces. Video and Audio significantly improved. Excellent blu ray transfer. I have not noticed any 'darker' colors as mentioned by some other viewers. The next few lines of the script are the actual color correction, and remain unchanged from You_Too's original script. You can read You_Too's forum post for information on how he found the ideal curves in Photoshop, but here's his explanation of what that portion of the script does: Hairy Hobbit feet! We always knew the Hobbits had hairy feet, but perhaps we forgot how hairy they were. Along comes this new 4k upgrade and although there are not many closeups of their feet you can almost count the Hobbity hairs when pausing the video.
