About this deal

Although I don’t use RGB lighting anymore, I do hold a soft spot in my heart for it after so many years in a dark office when I worked in IT. Thanks to the support for hotswap with 5 pins, no soldering or cutting is required - just replace with compatible switches and play. Glorious haven’t only made changes to the parts that you can see: there are all sorts of things happening inside the case as well. The GMMK 2 is a welcomed refresh and stands as a nice contender for those who feel intimidated by modding, still want to get into the hobby, and stay under budget. We've added links to the newly-reviewed NuPhy Halo96 [Halo65, Halo75] in the Typing Noise section of this review.

The butt of the board also has flip out legs that change the typing angle from 7 to 14 degrees (if you like that kind of thing; sometimes I do if the mood strikes). Great quality keyboard with lots of customization options to make it feel/sound and look exactly how you want it.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The chassis is made from premium-feeling plastic, while the top plate is made from aluminum and carries over the sides of the keyboard.

The GLORIOUS GMMK 2 and the Keychron Q5 are two full-size (96%) customizable keyboards designed with different uses in mind.

They’re rather smooth out of the box and even though the lubing job isn’t anything close to what an experienced keyboard maker can do by hand I would say that lubing these isn’t a necessity at all. Despite being pre-lubed, there were some rattles on the left side of the spacebar, but in my opinion it doesn’t matter too much if you type using the same thumb over and over.

It also lacks a trackpad or any navigational tool, so you'll have to use a separate peripheral to navigate on-screen menus. We've also added new objective evaluations to the Typing Noise test, and we've simplified several tests and removed several others that were no longer relevant. They don’t specify it as something that can be used, but I really don’t mind having the plastic cover that fit over the keycaps. It’s not as if there are any hidden screws or any of those nasty ribbons or thin plastic pieces that are designed to discourage users from opening up products because there’s a large risk of breaking components, but there are a lot of screws here, which makes opening up the board a bit of a hassle. I personally use mine as a mild dust cover which can be useful if you have any pets, or live like a gremlin like I do. Once upon a time Glorious released a Model O in Pink, which I picked up (of course I did as I collect other “cute coloured” mice such as the Logitech G203 in Lilac and White, Razer Viper in Quartz, and the Model O in Pink and White)… As soon as I saw that the GMMK 2 was available in Pink, I had to compare it to the Model O. Overall, this provides a balanced weight that, combined with the rubberised feet, help to keep this keyboard standing firm in the heat of battle.
