Distilled to Master Distiller Dan McKee’s exacting specifications, no US 1 whiskey is ever released until Dan and the Michter’s tasting panel deems it ready. Each barrel of rye is selected by Michter’s Master of Maturation when it reaches maturity, usually between five and eight years. Renowned for rye – America’s oldest whiskey variety – since the earliest days of our history, Michter’s take the production of US1 Kentucky Straight Rye extremely seriously.

Added depth and richness from the production process giving notes of orange peel, roasted nuts and butterscotch as well. Subject to the costly evaporation of a quarter century of “Angel’s Share,” our 25 Year Single Barrel Rye continues the Michter’s tradition of sparing no expense in striving to offer the finest whiskey possible. TASTING NOTES Cascading flavors with rich vanilla, coffee, and a hint of orange, crystallized dried fruit, spicy pepper finish. Entering the barrel at a lower proof of 103 actually costs Michter’s more money than a higher proof in terms of warehousing however Michter’s believe this produces a Kentucky Rye Whiskey which is richer and smoother. One of Michter's most limited production items, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye continues the legacy of America’s first whiskey variety (rye) from America’s first whiskey company (Michter’s, originally known as Shenk’s).Michter’s US *1 Kentucky Rye is made from select American rye grain, of which is sheared to maximise the extraction of flavour from the grain. Moreover, rather than use the one size fits all approach of many distillers, Michter’s use the different filtration mediums and techniques best suited to each of their individual whiskey offerings – despite it being time consuming and costly – to highlight each expression’s best qualities. The whiskey explodes with flavour of rye spice, alongside bursts of black pepper, zesty citrus, sweet butterscotch and warm oak. They only sources wood for their casks that has been air dried between 18 and up to 48 months, leading to less tannins being imparted into the whisky. Their aim was simple: to honour the Michter's legacy by producing the best whiskey possible, cost be damned!

Crafted using only the finest ingredients and traditional, costly techniques, there's a rich yet mellow character to these gorgeous whiskeys, which are hard to match for sheer enjoyability. Often significantly older than the age statement on the label, only a select few barrels age with the elegance required for inclusion in these highly limited releases. All spirit at Michter’s is distilled using copper column and pot stills before entering the barrel at 103 proof.
