There’s a few holes in the rules, which is OK (they’re free, after all), especially if you’re a group of friends and playing the game in the spirit of fun. I started off with an assumption that lots would need changing and only a few unit types and upgrades/special rules would be applicable. These were mostly around allowing army building away from a single mini source, use Lion Rampant as a base, and allow flexible and fun 80’s style gaming. A few years ago we’d re-fought the battle so what we did was have a special Saga day based on the Norman Invasion.

If you want a more simple game or more historical fluff Lion Rampant is the better option, but if you're familiar with the system or pick up rules with ease then Dragon Rampant is a must try at least once. Your imagination… be creative with troop types: why ride a horse when you could ride a giant chicken? The new games room is mostly sorted, and last weekend Jase and I managed to fit in a couple of co-op games of Rangers of Shadow Deep and a game of Sci-Fi Rampant.Mounted units begin with 6 Strength Points each, whereas Foot units mostly begin with 12 Strength Points each.
