About this deal
My favourite character is Abbie because I think she is a kind and caring person, only she doesn’t let it show when she is running as she is too competitive then.
As always Tom's story sets a scene that draws you in from the beginning and keeps you enthralled until the end. She finds her great great grandfather's diaries and reads them, discovering stories of the war and of running from more than 100 years ago. She hasn’t done enough training for her forthcoming fell race and she can’t face the probability of her arch-rival Abbie overtaking her in the final strait again. I n Armistice Runner, I tried to capture the impact this has through Lily’s warm relationship with her ailing gran. The dual narrative of Lily trying to maintain a relationship with her grandmother who is battling Alzheimer's and that of Ernest, writing letters to his dead brother tell a wonderful story of family and loyalty. He has written three series for Puffin Books - Football Academy (7+), Foul Play (9+) and The Squad (9+) - and several books for Barrington Stoke, including Armistice Runner and After the War, both of which have been nominated for the Carnegie Medal.
I hadn`t expected there to be extracts from this journal throughout, but I really liked that there was and the way that it portrayed life on the front line. This isn't only a book about sports or war it's just a great story, expertly told, and one that every child should have a chance to read.Armistice Runner’ is a moving and inspirational story fromTom Palmer, who is something of a master when it comes to sport-themed writing. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned.
