Mepitel ® is a gentle two-sided wound contact layer with Safetac ® – the original less-pain contact layer with silicone adhesion. Please be assured that our couriers will work as hard as they can to deliver parcels as normal, and will get your parcel to you as soon as they are able. You can use Mepitel together with Mesorb ®; or for highly exuding wounds, with Mextra ® Superabsorbent; with Tubifast ® fixation or under compression bandages. It has a pre-printed symbol ( figure 2) which can facilitate safe removal when managing skin tears with fully or partially intact flap. This article examines the use of Mepitel One, a wound contact layer that promotes wound healing by using the clinical benefits of Safetac technology.

It can be applied together with Mesorb ®; or for high-exuding wounds with Mextra ® Superabsorbent; with tubular fixation such Tubifast ® 2-Way Stretch ® or under compression bandages. Through the unique Safetac adhesive Mepitel Film minimises pain and trauma before, at and after dressing changes. This gentle adhesion also tends to prevent maceration by inhibiting the lateral movement of exudate from the wound on to the surrounding skin.Due to the Safetac properties, Mepitel is especially suitable for painful wounds and wounds with compromised or fragile surrounding skin. When Mepitel is used for the fixation of skin grafts and protection of blisters, the dressing should not be changed before the fifth day post application. The properties of the product remain over time, leaving no residue and without drying out (Adamietz et al, 1995).

Transparent Mepitel One is an exciting new development in the quest to minimise interruptions to healing. Some clinicians found the outside silicone layer stuck to their gloves, although some liked this feature as it helped keep the secondary dressing in place. Mepitel used after facial resurfacing: avoid placing pressure upon the dressing lift and reposition the dressing at least every second day.
