About this deal

Opened as recently as 1995, Arran is a relatively new distillery located on the island of the same name, just off the west coast of Scotland.

Vol without chill filtration or added colouring, this peated Arran Single Malt displays all the freshness of our island house style, with an added puff of smoke and earthiness. Since 2019, all peated production of whisky on the island is being done by Arran sister distillery at Lagg. So popular, in fact, that the distillery on the eponymous island has made the decision to add it to its permanent range! This is a fairly decent peated offering from Arran which won’t be challenging the punchy peat monsters that exist, yet I’m sure that was never the intention. There must be something about these wooden planks and this boggy stuff that works some kind of magic and throws fairy dust into the consumer’s eye.Something perhaps that meant something long ago, before you obsessed over the latest Cadenhead’s outturn, or hollered on Twitter about provenance or bickered about craft vs establishment.

You acknowledge, understand and agree that we are not obligated to review, check or monitor any Contributions, but we may do so. The Machrie Moor 10 and the Arran 10 that I’ll review here were both distilled around 2011 in the same stills. To this end, I’ll taste the Arran 10 and the Machrie Moor 10 in comparison and explore their similarities and differences. Arran is beautiful and diverse, and perhaps islands are especially good at imprinting their characters on us in ways whisky can tap into.
