Overall, this was a story that quickly pulled me into the narrative and the lives of Morgan and those around her. An identity theft was portrayed exceptionally well as too the devastating aftermath, however the story then seemed to deteriorate, with the ending happening to quickly after all the suspense. The book tidied up well and I knew it was going to just because it’s NR and she’s not going to have all the good people killed. But, he had to leave before he could murder Morgan who remains the one who got away, forced to retreat to her mother’s home in Vermont, broken and destitute.

The characters are very well developed and it was easy to get caught up in all of the drama that unfolded. Michaelides takes a literary turn in his latest novel, employing an unreliable narrator, the structure of classical drama, and a self-conscious eye to dismantling the locked-room mystery.

Giving a multilayered performance, LaVoy provides Morgan's grandmother with a steely quality and Morgan's mother with a light yet competent tone.

Meanwhile readers are treated to Morgan’s reconnection with her family and the rebuilding of her life. Nice times follow a casual pizza date when things abruptly turn when Nina, Morgan’s roommate is killed and Morgan is bereft by her identity.Giving him a voice and a story made the horror of what he was doing more real, which only added to the success of this working as a great suspense plot. Miles, the love interest, was likeable enough but I was thankful their budding relationship didn’t overshadow the seriousness of the threats still at hand. Left reeling after finding all of her money gone and tons of things taken out in her name, Morgan goes back to her grandmother and mother in Vermont. While Morgan is slowly rebuilding her life, she lands herself a job, as a manager at apres, that she absolutely loves.
