About this deal

He’s honest about some weaker effects (largely the blood colour) and talks about how his work advanced from this on to Day of the Dead. Clarity/Detail: Dawn of the Dead features a new 4K scan from the original negative with inserts from the 2K digital intermediate for the unrated footage. Death threats and petitions came his way when the news came of him remaking the film because of writing Scooby Doo movies. Shadows are more gray looking overall and they’re also a bit crushed, lacking the truly deep blacks and bold highlights of the other 4K presentations. For some, Dawn of the Dead 2004 is one of their favorites, but for others, it’s a mildly entertaining facsimile of a full-blown masterpiece.

The documentary might be a little technical for some in its first half, but it moves quickly enough to prevent it from feeling dry. Romero's classic low budget horror and sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead' where the dead now roam the entire American continent, feeding off the flesh of the living. There’s plentiful gloss to this do-over, giving the action more splatter while updating character archetypes. Zombies and Bikers is a new documentary on the making of the film from the extras’ perspective, featuring interviews with Bob Michelucci, Lenny Lies, Debra Gordon, Chuck Gordon, John Kiss, Denise Kiss, Jim Krut, Joe Shelby, John Amplas, Warner Shook, Roy Frumkes, Tom Savini, Christine Forrest, Tom Dubensky, Tony Buba, Ralph Langer, Mark Cooper, Taso Stavrakis, Gary Zeller, Mike Savini, Donna Savini, Michael Gornick, Trudy Gray, and Nick Bomba Tallo. Romero by Matthew Thrift; Io Zombo, Tu Zombi, Lei Zomba: Italian Variations on Dawn of the Dead by Roberto Curti; restoration information; and production credits. Some of us missed out on Second Sight's big limited edition set, but this standalone 4K release of their gorgeous DAWN OF THE DEAD restoration is every bit as fantastic. Inside the package is a 156-page hardcover book entitled Dawn of the Dead: Dissecting the Dead featuring rare photos, posters, and artwork; Dawn of the Dead: Over and Over by Chris Alexander; A Real-Life Nightmare by Tony Williams; Romero’s New American Gothic by Kat Ellinger; Superschlock! The 4K SDR presentation of the Argento cut – complete with 'Zombi' onscreen title – makes for an interesting comparison. Second Sight’s long-awaited new 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition box set includes no less than three different versions of the film, all in 4K. Ana (Sarah Polley) sees her daughter and husband turned as she makes a frantic escape from her upper middle class, suburban development. The source for the Extended Cut presentation has used the same new 4K scan as the Theatrical Cut, and a new 4K scan of the Extended Cut colour reversal internegative, producing a new 4K DI.

However, only the theatrical and extended cuts show the most improvement since they were mastered in HDR10 and HDR10+, delivering significantly punchier, cleaner and spot-on whites in nearly every scene, especially coming from the various light fixtures of the mall. Also included are two US trailers, one European trailer, one German TV spot, one German trailer, three US TV spots, two UK TV spots, and three US radio spots. Dawn of the Dead’s 2004 iteration is may not be of the astute nature the original comes with, but on the other side of the field its one of the best horror action films we’ve ever had. The color palette is better represented with deeper reds, greens, and blues, which suffered a bit on Scream Factory’s previous Blu-ray. He’s got a lot of praise for Zack Snyder and a good group of people, with many “play”-like sequences. I just watched the theatrical cut all the way through and caught glimpses of the others while I listened to their commentaries.
