About this deal

Nothing remarkable in the story-telling or the characterizations, and only passing references to the beautiful scenery, but capably written with plenty of forward momentum to hold my attention. DCI Logan is a main character I can spend a lot of time with (I like when fictional characters have a sense of humor, despite the difficult situation they are in), I prefer my detectives to be difficult, rough and loyal. I tend to add only books I really do want to read, so someone I trust must have recommended this to me - anyone want to own up? To begin with, for this being the first in a series, there is a lot mentioned in the synopsis that we learn nothing about.

While it’s not the most remote part of the country, it’s still a long way from bright city lights, and DCI Logan is frequently wrong-footed by the different ways of life and the interactions of the locals. The fish out off water setting (tick) the hard nosed not playing by the rules cop (tick) - on the other hand the plot was deftly delivered; there were the obligatory twists and turns; there was some humour; the writing wasn't trying too hard but workmanlike if not necessarily memorable. If you’ve already read any of the DCI Logan books, or if you go read it now, do let me know what you think in the comments below. Rather, it was like something IKEA might use as a showpiece for its new office range designed for the deeply unimaginative. The story takes place over a couple of days, and it was short enough that I read it in one rainy afternoon.

He was such a macho hero solving it all by himself it just needed him to be wearing his superman underpants to make it complete. Hoon is a private sleuth (in his spin-off) and has absolutely no filter or care of perception whatsoever.

The story is quite fast paced, certainly not boring and has a certain page turnability and it seems that it is a popular series. Instead, they serve to increase the sense of suspense and to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The storyline is good, but there is nothing new or remarkable about it, except that we know for sure that this DCI is no inspiration to aspiring detectives. Back to this story, if you love crime procedural books, or books along the lines of the TV Series The Commander or Wired in the Blood, this would be a great story to pick up. What I like most in books like this, is when the reasons are revealed and you get a look at the psychology of the criminal, how his mind works, what are the reasons.
