About this deal

I have seen something like it on Pinterest and have always thought it would be a great acticity for a kid. Our daughter absolutely loves opening and closing some of the latches on the Melissa and Doug puzzle. Selected lines only, determined by size, weight or whether delivered direct from one of our suppliers. All joking aside, you can see from the board it’s full of hinges and things like chain latches, so she can’t break into a locked medicine cabinet or a door that’s locked from the inside. She plays with this toy every day for around 10 minutes at a time and comes back to it again and again.

They snuggly fit so you my son really has to use some effort to pull them apart (even when he is correctly trying to unfasten the latch).Once the primer was dry, I repeated that step with a coat of paint just to give the edge a little slice of color.

It enables him to open and shut all the latches, and keeps us happy to cause he isn't always messing with all the other latches around the house trying to get into them. Allow the children to take turns unlocking each door, one at a time, seeing how long it will take them to work it out, talking through the process with them and improving their fine motor skills. The latches are varied and an interesting challenge for our 1 1/2 years through 3 1/2 year old grandchildren but they enjoyed discovering how they worked and were totally delighted with the colorful animals they discovered behind the doors.

A three year old boy, who was neglected as his parents were online, picked up the latch board and played with it for an hour. I love making things for kids too, everything is just so cute and the small size makes it manageable! Then I just flicked on my table saw and made one quick cut down a line I made once we determined the desired size. The wood piece shown above was just a scrap piece of plywood that we were using to temporarily figure out our desired board size.

Not to mention our kidlet figured all that out without the help of a latch board so it seems inevitable even without the toy. I think Sherry and I both liked the combo of nearly-neon grellow + stained wood on that project so much that we subconsciously wanted to repeat it – this time so the grellow was actually visible instead of hidden on the back.

Our four year old daughter is the one who REALLY loves it but it's also too easy for her at this point. Even though there was no threat found at the time of linking, NeuroToys cannot control content and full evolution of those sites. We came home with quite an assortment of things and eagerly spread them out to see how everything might fit together. I have to supervise her while she plays with it because it is meant for older kiddo's and there is one particular swivel latch that could pinch her little fingers.
