I just purchased it, plugged it in via the wireless dongle, and Steam recognized it as a PS4 controller, thus allowing you to configure the touchpad and gyro. ASTRO Certified Refurbished products include all required cables, accessories, and manuals included with new products. One other peculiar hurdle with this controller is that, despite being an official PlayStation-licensed device, the C40 TR can’t turn the console on.
Durable and serviceable, the C40 TR Controller can be adapted for any playstyle and genre, is an Officially Licensed PlayStation 4 peripheral and also works with Windows PCs. I booted up Steam turned on my controller wireless and steam recognized the Astro c40 tr as a ps4 controller (i did select the ps4 configuration on steam) prior.Set up wasn’t quite as easy as I expected, as the C40 really didn’t play nicely with my Turtle Beach headset. The C40 has more buttons than a soviet nuclear reactor, which can seem daunting at first but with practise and use of the button mapping software you get used to it. I set the trigger stops, which worked with the game since the triggers activate with relatively shallow presses. Within hours after the start of the early access rollout for Rocksteady Studios and WB Games' Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, its servers were taken offline due to a bug. The inability to set step thresholds (a vertical jump in the response curve) also limits configurability as well. Mappability streamlines the controller for any genre and playstyle while improving response time and accuracy.
There may be a bit of dust and dirt on the controller in my pictures, since I've used it for about 3 weeks now since I've had it. Since every face button and trigger is already used by other functions, the extra two buttons on the underside greatly help the game's control. I found this design to make it easier to toggle back and forth when playing fighting games like Mortal Kombat 11.
The PlayStation logo on the power button serves as a reminder of this PC/PS4 gamepad’s dual purpose and pedigree. I can say with confidence that the C40 solves nearly every complaint I have with competing devices from Scuf, Razer, and others that have tried their hand at the high-end, “elite” gamepad market. Programming its two rear inputs is as easy as holding down a button in the back, tapping the rear button you want to map and then pressing the face button you'd like it to mimic.
That alone is incredibly useful, though you can also manually remap any inputs to the UL and UR buttons by holding down one of them and the remap button on the underside of the controller. A lot of the top PS4 pro controller makers now offer that option, including Scuf and lesser-known but highly regarded brands like AimControllers, Battle Beaver Customs, and Evil Controllers.
