About this deal

The "Oh my God I feel like I am in the studio with Zeppelin" feeling has been replaced with a dull but clean sound. Produced by Page and mixed by Kevin Shirley, MOTHERSHIP's 24 monolithic tracks were selected and sequenced by the band, who also oversaw the painstaking remastering.

The 4LP vinyl edition arrives contained in a deluxe archival 2-piece box including an oversized full-colour booklet. It also shares most tracks with The Best of Led Zeppelin (with " Ramble On", " Heartbreaker", "Over the Hills and Far Away", and " D'yer Mak'er" instead of " What Is and What Should Never Be", "The Battle of Evermore", and " Ten Years Gone"). Spanning their epic career, the unprecedented collection pulls immortal songs from all eight of the band’s classic studio albums, one of the 20th century’s most enduring bodies of musical work.

If loud is your thing and you have a crappy system that can benefit from the compression it is probably a godsend otherwise. The two-CD edition shares most tracks with the original two-CD compilation Led Zeppelin Remasters, but with " When the Levee Breaks" and " Over the Hills and Far Away" instead of " Celebration Day" and " The Battle of Evermore. The 2008 mastering on this hard-rocking set was supervised by Jimmy Page, and the 24 tracks were chosen and sequenced by the band.I still have early Zeppelin on the original CDs, not later reissues or remasters, and they sound pretty decent to me.

The songs included were chosen by the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, and represent eight of the band's nine studio albums. They continue to inspire successive generations with their passionate, groundbreaking, genre-transcendent, mystic, heavy and blues-infused rock 'n roll. This release features liner notes by David Fricke and cover designed by noted Los Angeles artist Shepard Fairey. We value your privacy and the information you consent to share in relation to our SMS marketing service. It's a little bright at the top end sometimes, but overall Mothership sounds very good to my ears and things are substantially "cleaner" and more dynamic than previous versions. Now the vinyl remixes don't sound as good as the classic record versions because the new releases are smoothed out. Making things sound like a chirpy, bad mp3 isn't a good thing for the music itself--it robs it of much of its power (part of that power comes from the dynamic range) in the process. I've got two Japanese pressings--Houses of the Holy and Zep II--which sound much better than the CD version of Mothership. A great collection of the best from Zeppelin's catalogue and a VERY worthwhile addition to any serious rock fans music collection.
