About this deal

But then, this isn’t a serious running watch; it’s a fitness tracker and as long as you keep using it it will provide you with a decent gauge of how you’re doing comparatively speaking.

I had previously bought an off brand which was much simpler to operate and synch with their app, but it turned out to be junk. And, second, that those extra time credits for activities in your cardio and peak zones might encourage people to indulge in too much high-intensity exercise at the expense of lower intensity exercise when a balance between the two is what you want to aim for.But the Charge 4 has some other great qualities too, including enhanced sleep tracking and a new fitness metric, to let you know if you’re getting enough exercise. Fitbit included a total of seven GPS activities on the Charge 4, which include running, walking, biking, hiking, and a new outdoor workout mode that acts as a catch-all for various other outdoor exercises. The Fitbit Charge 4 activity tracker is undoubtedly one of the ideal devices to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The Charge 4 is water resistant to 164 feet; I wore it in the shower several times without incident. This feature is convenient, and especially helpful in the age of COVID-19, allowing you to reduce your contact with potentially germ-laden point-of-sale systems.

Swiping up will reveal your daily stats, including step count, distance travelled and calories burned. The majority of the software navigation is done by swiping and tapping, and there’s a single inductive button on the left side of the case for going back and launching Fitbit Pay. It’s a shame this isn’t available instantly – instead, the app takes a few minutes to generate it as a PDF. Both have a similar rectangular design with a grayscale OLED touchscreen, and a replaceable band that wraps around your wrist. The Charge 4 does almost everything right, but it’s just not the breath of fresh air the original Versa was.For an accurate heart rate reading, you should wear the Charge 4 tight enough so that it won’t move around, but not so tight that it leaves a mark on your wrist or cuts off your circulation.

The rounded sleek edge of the OLED colour display makes the Fitbit Charge 5 feel more like a smartwatch than just a regular fitness tracker, but in my opinion, I didn’t have any issue with the Fitbit Charge 4 grayscale, as it was still clear when showing me my workout results, steps, and other functions like setting alarms and timers. I upgraded from a charge 2 and its a big difference and it has so much more and the display is bigger.

It has a monochrome OLED display that’s just big enough to show notifications and activity stats without feeling too cramped. It certainly makes more sense from a general fitness standpoint than the much more arbitrary step count measure. There's also a new bright color AMOLED screen in place of the Charge 4's monochrome display, plus a smart new design that replaces the older watch's hard angles with smoother lines. As before, it’s a fitness band with an inline display – not quite as slimline as the Fitbit Inspire HR but certainly more svelte than the Versa 2 or the Versa Lite watches.

On the one hand, this is a tad boring; on the other, it means existing Charge 3 accessories and wristbands remain compatible with the new device. With the Charge 3, Fitbit only offered its contactless payment service on the special edition model, but all Charge 4 devices have access. I have been reading the user manual to try and tweak several areas of the setup options, but i need to do a much better job of that and ask Fitbit for help if I continue to struggle. It’s a concept similar to Intensity Minutes in Garmin Connect, and is based on recommendations from the World Health Organization and the NHS. However, the small size of the Charge 4’s screen did make it a bit more difficult to read while I was running and my head and arms were moving. We'd also prefer it if the screen remained at full brightness a little longer after it's woken (either by pressing the side button, or by raising your wrist), as it dims rather quickly. Thanks to the addition of GPS connectivity and a SpO2 sensor, the Fitbit Charge 4 is an excellent fitness tracker that will meet any entry-level or semi-serious athletes needs. During peaks and valleys in the chart above, the Forerunner was always about 1-3bpm higher than my Wahoo Tickr X chest strap, and the Charge 4 was consistently 4-6bpm too high. To be clear, the dedicated Spotify app that comes preinstalled on the Charge 4 only enables smartphone music control. When i work out I need accurate information readily available to monitor primarily my heart rate, so i dont exceed my target rate for any extended period of time.
