About this deal

In Feminine Gospels, Carol Ann Duffy draws on the historical, the archetypal, the biblical and the fantastical to create various visions -- and revisions -- of female identity. This is all done through subject and form as a way of enlightening the reader into very current issues in the modern world. With most of the poems having asyndetic listings and no rhyme schemes I felt bored and couldn’t read the collection in one sitting because of the repetitiveness throughout. in stripping women bare of their layers, carol ann duffy centres her anthology feminine gospels on expanding upon the historical, the archetypal, the biblical, and the fantastical visions of female identity, often rewriting them as she sees fit.

Even if, in this particular poem, the character is hardly given Duffy's approval, that readiness to move on is intoxicating. Part of Duffy's talent -- besides her ear for ordinary eloquence, her gorgeous, powerful, throwaway lines, her subtlety -- is her ventriloquism . Throughout, Duffy makes some shrewd observations, and poses some fascinating thoughts and questions; in ‘The Long Queen’, for instance, she asks: ‘What was she queen of? Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement.

So much emphasis has been placed upon all of the senses, and the generational scope too is nothing short of masterful. When these two poems are considered together, it allows the reader to begin to connect to the poetry.

It is one thing to examine celebrity and analyze it; it is very different when a poet begins to explain how that celebrity may effect the general population. The use of line breaks and capitalization (or lack of) allows the reader see emphasis on the important ideas of the poem. The million copy bestseller, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, is an immensely powerful and heartbreaking novel of brotherly love and.Apart from the little amount I did at school with my only remembered poem,"I wandered lonely as a cloud" by Wordsworth, I only recently decided to try poetry, hence Carol Ann Duffy as one bit of blurb I read, said "non-poetry readers should read her". For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms - but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation.
