Some of the mechanics are solid and the artwork is fantastic, but it simply didn’t wow us enough to stay in our game rotation. However that does push the learning curve up for new players as there will be more actions they can take, more things to track and rules to remember. A variety of things can happen from these cards, including spawning deck hands and increasing the fire level. Normally my group sees this as a good thing, but some of the ways that you can lose are very frustrating.

Increase Your Battle Strength- Pirates can increase their combat strength by one point for each action token spent on this action. It’s a simple addition, but improves the experience of the game by giving players greater flexibility on how they want to plan their turns as a group. I may not agree with you on everything you post but I find your reviews give a good overall feel of the game.

However, when it came down to it, Dead Men was a fun game, an evocative game, and one that cloud switch up the play for a group that was bored with Pandemic or Flash Point. Captain Fromm and his skeleton crew have amassed a massive treasure, and now is your chance to board and plunder it all! Overwhelmed- When a new Deckhand needs to be added to the board but there aren’t any remaining in the supply, the Pirates are overwhelmed by the Skelit’s crew and are defeated. Both games feature a spreading threat that needs to kept under a certain value or risk explosive growth.

It has some solid mechanics, excellent production quality, and is overall an entertaining cooperative board game. Pick up a Token- To pick up a token on the board, whether it’s grog, a cutlass, or coveted treasure Pirates need to spend and action to pick it up from the Room.In DMTNT you can even pass some of your action tokens to the person to your left in case they need extra help this round. All tokens, deckhands and the dice shown on the starting boards are then placed on their respective spaces (for example red dice with a number four is placed on the tile with a picture of a red die with four pips). In Dead Men Tell No Tales players take on the role of pirates ransacking the Skelit’s Revenge while it’s consumed by flames. Established in January 2017 Way Too Many Games began with the goal to provide objective reviews and better represent independent developers and niche titles, eventually expanding into board games as well.

One game that immediately came to mind was Flash Point: Fire Rescue, which has similar fire-spreading and fire-fighting mechanics but, in my group’s opinion, is a better all-around experience. If the final room tile placed has a door not connecting to any other room then you have a second exit with which to escape the ship – “GAAAARGH! Libertalia looks like something my 10 year old can pick up but this game looks like it would be an ideal fit.Lost Treasure – It’s possible for explosions to destroy too many Treasures, not leaving enough behind for the Pirates to loot. Players roll a dice and add their battle strength to the result to determine the result of the fight. Can you and your crew ensure that all of the treasure is recovered and receive more riches and glory than you ever dreamed? Each player will control a unique pirate, each with their own special ability and shared group of items.

The aim of the pirates is to loot and escape with a number of treasures chests from the burning ship before all pirates are either killed, overwhelmed, cut off and trapped on the ship by the fire, the gold is destroyed, or the ship explodes. If a player chooses not to use all of his or her action points, they are transferred to the next player. The odds of there being a match early in the game is low, but will become progressively more likely as the map grows larger. The guards and skeletons are the main obstacles in the game — the thing that keeps players from achieving their goals. The art in DMTNT is wonderful and The Kraken expansion (and miniature upgrade kit) truly elevates the game and creates a much more immersive experience.Fatigue in turn can prevent a pirate from entering the most fiery locations (and can eventually kill them). I dig the dice exploding rooms mechanic but I’ve read a lot that it’s impossible to ever actually win this game.
