About this deal
Bramble is probably the most important source of pollen, nectar and then ripe-fruit sugars for more species of insect than any other common British plant. More recently, about 2 years ago I broke down and bought a gas-powered pole hedge trimmer — not for the briars but for the hedges I planted later. Six foot high nettles, cow parsley and saplings present no obstacle to this machine, but brambles are another story. The City of London Corporation, which looks after Epping Forest, “are now aware of its little literary connection”. There are ongoing themes of friendship, community spirit and sharing throughout the whole timeless collection.
All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! I quite enjoyed having the 4 individual seasonal books when I was younger but this book makes good sense if you want to save space or take all the stories with you at once.In late summer, you will see new flowers, semi-ripe and fully ripe blackberries all on the same plant.
In the Norfolk coastal parish of Cley-next-the-Sea at the height of lockdown a farmer cleared a 1,200m-long section of soft hedgerow dominated by brambles.Although the gallery of illustrations from the Brambly Hedge site does not include a dissected tree or the secret room, they do provide a fairly good idea of the quality of the illustrations in this book. Barklem, who was born in Essex, conceived the books as she commuted to art college in the early 1970s; her journey on the Central line tube “left her feeling that she needed to escape to another world, and that world was Brambly Hedge,” said her son Peter Barklem. Our library was pretty small but they had quite a large children's section where looking back, I think I spent half my life there (it seems).
