About this deal

This is a really good LP for turning up loud and blowing away the cobwebs so it's a thumbs up from this reviewer. There are 4 classy singles featured here:- 'Tears Are Not Enough', the punchy 'Poison Arrow', 'The Look Of Love' and, best of all, the gorgeous ballad 'All of My Heart'. Distribution in the US and Japan was handled by Mercury Records; Vertigo Records released it in Canada and Europe.

I had been looking for this on vinyl for a while and was delighted to find an original 1982 pressing of this classic album! In a BBC review of the 2004 Deluxe Edition, Rob Webb stated that " The Lexicon of Love stands as a landmark album in British pop", and "underpins just what a sharp band ABC were: witty, lyrical and very, very funky". Si sente molto l’impronta di alcuni collaboratori che poi diventeranno gli Art of Noise: Anne Dudley alle tastiere e all’arrangiamento delle orchestrazioni, Trevor Horn (che poi ci regalerà un altro capolavoro come Welcome to the pleasure dome) alla produzione ecc. ABC leader Martin Frey sings with a histrionic despair, at once naive and cynical, and all dressed up by horn and string sections that feel positively overwhelming. The SDE blu-ray additionally features the original 1982 mix of The Lexicon of Love in hi-res 96/24 stereo, whereas the blu ray in the vinyl box features video material instead, so each edition is unique. Certified gold in the US, it went platinum in the UK where four singles reached the Top 20; " Tears Are Not Enough", " Poison Arrow", " The Look of Love" and " All of My Heart", which Pitchfork named the best New Pop song ever recorded. The Lexicon of Love was again performed live in its entirety on 18 December 2012 at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane to mark its 30th anniversary.

and stereo for this reissue, but before we get to that, let’s establish the formats for this re-release. A point of detail: the blu-ray in the 4LP vinyl box offers the promo videos (including Mantrap) – these don’t feature on the SDE version. ABC and lead singer Martin Fry were an 80's pop band and along with the likes of Spandau Ballet, Ultravox and Duran Duran brought out some great songs which are still classics and played extensively today. It was released on June 25, 1982 and reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 24 in the US Billboard 200.

I guess Michael Jacksons Thriller and Fleetwood Macs Tango in the night would also be contenders but Lexicon of love truly is a timeless album and blows your mind everytime you hear it. Concept sur l'amour comprenant un ensemble de tubes incontournables: Poison Arrow, Tears are not enough et The look of love. Brilliant service throughout from this seller, my item arrived earlier than expected and in brilliant condition. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Steven had unearthed all the magic that lay within the analogue tapes of the original recordings with dexterity and diligence, shining a light on all that lay inside.

Disc 2 features some early demos and a previously unreleased live run-through of virtually the entire album, recorded during the band's heyday in 1982. Dudley reprised her role as conductor, performing with the Southbank Sinfonia Orchestra, and they concluded a four-date mini-tour at the same venue on 30 March 2014. The Lexicon of Love sounds fantastic, thanks to the impeccable credentials of the ‘backroom’ team; it was produced by Trevor Horn, engineered by Gary Langan, with keyboards and orchestration by Anne Dudley. Ken Tucker of The Philadelphia Inquirer was less enthusiastic, dismissing the album as "prissy dance music, light on the beat and heavy on the sort of maundering crooning that the effete English rock musicians frequently mistake for passion. Songs were written collectively by the band, with arranger Anne Dudley also given a credit on some tracks.

However, one has to wonder what Trevor Horn would do if he dared to do a surround mix or revisit of this masterwork. Tears Are Not Enough" (in its initial release produced by Steve Brown), "All of My Heart", "Poison Arrow" and "The Look of Love" were all top-20 entries in the UK; the latter two also charted in the US, peaking at No.

Some of the founding members of the later record label ZTT Records and the band The Art of Noise collaborate in the production of the album. My remix of ABC’s classic 1982 album The Lexicon of Love was released on 4th August 2023 for its (somewhat belated) 40th anniversary.
