The comparisons to the child antagonist are in most of the reviews I've read so far: Rhoda, the ultimate *Bad Seed,* the "evil fruit of the devil" Damien from *The Omen* series, the *Kevin*. I went into Baby Teeth thinking maybe the child was going to be a little disruptive and it was going to be hard for the mother to cope with her.

Throughout the book, as she makes decisions and tries not to make the same mistakes her own mother made, Suzette is haunted by these traumas. Baby Teeth is an unexpected LGBTQ+ novel in verse; it takes elements of horror and mixes them with romance, resulting in a changeling of a book that reimagines vampire myths for the twenty-first century. Seeing Hanna finally getting help, really seeing the true side of Suzette not wanting to have Hanna around again. This dark, terrifying novel unfolds as a battle of wits between a struggling mother and her psychotic young daughter and its genius is that the reader’s allegiance isn’t allowed to linger too long on either side.Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. But, really, was there or is this more aiding and abetting of Hannah for the sake of the all important plot? However, when Alex came home, Hanna had twisted her own arm so that bruises appeared, and when he saw them, he was furious with Suzette. Imogen and Beck, two sisters who couldn't be more different, have been friends with Tilda since high school. The blobby people emerged — one with her hand outstretched offering to take her back to Mommy, like that was some sort of reward.

Deliciously creepy…the author keeps the suspense taut…offering a terrifying glimpse into the inner thoughts of a budding sociopath. She used to dress up for Alex’s office parties and loved the way his lustful eyes followed her around as she sipped wine and chatted, enjoying the rare company of other adults. The only problem is, he's still married to his first wife, even though she is in a care facility for dementia. For example - As Hanna’s behavior continues to escalate, she does something that incapacitates her mother, making Suzette largely defenseless against this proven-to-be-violent-if-not-homicidal child.

She’s also becoming increasingly frightened by Hanna’s little games, while her husband Alex remains blind to the failing family dynamics. As I said, the issue described above — and perhaps a handful of similar ones — were small and largely inconsequential, but still worthy of mention. Nervous about what the doctor would say — how he might criticize her — she patted a jumpy rhythm on Hanna's arm.
