About this deal

I believed it would have been rude to not allow them say all that they wanted to say, even if I found their words critical or insulting or outlandish! I end up spending all my energy thinking of the person in disbelief or outrage or frustration, and I simply stay stuck. This is a great title to support parents and carers in approaching the topic of neurodiversity, providing an accessible device for talking about some of the problems neurodivergent children may face. Whenever I remember to PAUSE and LISTEN FULLY and LISTEN to UNDERSTAND, I am always in awe of the direction the conversation takes as it becomes a deeper, more loving, more authentic connection every single time. However, this label also boxed me in, preventing me from ever feeling comfortable asking for help, for many years, even when some little help would have massively lightened my load!

I have learned that when the conversation no longer feels ‘right’ for me, whether it’s a topic or an attitude or a tone of voice, I can choose whether or not to stay in the conversation. The words we choose to speak to one another have the power to harm or deepen our relationships with our loved ones. Emily shares her extraordinary story from growing up in inner city Dublin, painting on the walls of her mobile home in the Dublin mountains, living in abandoned buildings, to becoming a celebrated fashion designer featuring in New York fashion week, and having 10 shows in America in the last couple of years. In this first childrens book from autism ambassador, ChristineMcGuinness shows just how important it is to embracediversity and inclusivity while highlightingjust how much it means to accept one another, justas we are with all the uniqueness that makes us special.
