About this deal

The image is a leather jacket with a pen along with a list of just some of the artists with the standard “plus many more” tagline. An earlier compilation tie-in with Smash Hits from 1987 did, however, include tracks from those years. My parents had (and still have) the Communards’ self-titled album on vinyl, so it’s one of those records I grew up with. It is the second number-one album in the series, following Now 4, and has been certified 3× Platinum by the RIAA. The previous year saw The Hits Album comfortably take the honours against Now 4 so now it was time for the latter to up its game.

Due to licensing issues, these re-compiled versions often use alternative mixes such as album versions. In February 2023, 12" mixes all taken from the first three Now Dance compilations, originally released in 1985, 1986 and 1989, were collected on a special 4CD and 3LP set, Now Dance: The 80s, with artwork inspired by the original Now Dance 86.I’ve got a soft spot for this one because it was used for one of the idents on VH1 Classic back in the ’00s, when Geth and I lived in Edinburgh and could still get Virgin TV with its huge variety of music TV channels. Something that does strike me as odd about this compilation is that I’m pretty sure the album cover didn’t promote the Christmas album and likewise the Christmas album cover didn’t promote Now 6. A Good Heart and There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) both reached the top of the charts and remain radio staples today.

Bryan Adams and Tina Turner duet effectively on It’s Only Love while Gary Moore’s gloomy and introspective Empty Rooms fits in well beside Marillion’s dilly-dilly blues of Lavender.Nikita is too serious for its own good while UB40 [getting two appearances – again] and Cliff Richard keep things dull with Don’t Break My Heart and the mawkish She’s So Beautiful. Eurythmics – There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) (Greatest Hits / Ultimate Collection mix which is just a fade of the album version. first reissued 2009 for the 25th anniversary, then again 20 July 2018 to coincide with Now 100) re-issued on 2CD (gatefold in 2009, jewel case in 2018), audio cassette, and a 2LP vinyl release.

Towards the end of the series, 3-CD digipak sets were issued, but in 2010, the long-running title was retired, and all subsequent dance-themed Now collections have been issued under the Special Editions series.Tina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome): My sister had the 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome' soundtrack. The former was Feargal’s third 45 after the underrated Listen To Your Father [Now 4] and Loving You [Now 5 video selection only]. While John and Andy rocked out with Robert Palmer in The Power Station, Simon, Nick and Roger kept a more new romantic vibe for Arcadia.

Our automated blocking policies are imperfect and sometimes too strict, and some IP addresses are blocked by accident. Each album is meticulously curated to encompass a dynamic blend of chart-topping hits and hidden gems, offering listeners a diverse musical experience. November 2023) 33 tracks with only Kate Bush and Lil Louis missing, although Lil Louis was just a bonus track on the original CD version and did not appear on the vinyl and magnetic cassette versions. The 1990s Yearbook series contains a new retro-90s logo design and artwork which also complements its sister decade series. The year 1984 followed, but after this, the series rewound its year of focus, issuing collections that went from 1982 and backwards into the late 1970s.
