About this deal

Possibly a very stupid question, but is it possible to watch live Freeview channels via a router (wifi or ethernet) or do the units need to be plugged into an aerial or satellite dish? While similar to Freeview, Freesat was created as a solution for places where standard aerial reception is lacking. Like their Freeview cousins, Freesat boxes have evolved to cover catch-up TV and streaming services, and the best boxes now include Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Maybe you’ve been using Freesat for years, maybe you’re new to Freesat and are wondering which set top box to get - either way, are you thinking it’s time to upgrade your TV set-up?

You can pause and rewind live TV at the touch of a button allowing you to pause for a cup of tea or answer that door. You can still watch On Demand content if you have an Ethernet cable (not supplied) to connect your internet router directly to the box.I assumed because any gadgets or the TV connect to the wi-fi no problem, the Freesat box should do it just as easily. As mentioned, there are no PVR capabilities (you can’t even record on a USB stick – the USB port is only for software updates), and there are no apps or catch-up services – the broadband connection are there, again, only for software updates.

We record and watch stuff on the free channels and the rest we watch on streaming services such as Netflix. On the remote you have lost the “scheduled” button to see what you have set in your recordings if you have forgotten what you have set, so you have to scroll through all the epg. In the TV Guide you will easily be able to select what programmes, movies and Radio shows to record, by selecting the programme and pressing the record button on the remote. Conveniently, you can also use the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) to choose future-programmes to record, so you’ll never miss your favourite shows. You could plug in a wifi wireless bridge into the LAN port - but it will be mains powered (they always are!Are you thinking about upgrading your TV viewing equipment but unsure about what you’d need to get Freesat? uk, which is powered by the CAI, the UK’s representative trade association for businesses delivering home entertainment services. The downside is that you need to provide the hardware for it to run on and the storage for it to record to (i. It connects to an available port on your TV and then all your HDMI-based devices can connect to the switcher.

Pay in 3 is a form of credit, may not be suitable for everyone and use may affect your credit score.

It’s not the most feature-packed box, with no catch-up TV services or streaming apps to mention, despite the Ethernet port at the rear. The only way you can connect the PVR into your wireless wifi LAN is to use a wireless bridge, but you don't seem to like this idea as it will use a mains socket (these are always mains powered). Connect to your home network and satellite dish for the best in subscription Free TV, Catch Up TV and Video on demand services. However, if your satellite dish can’t be positioned to face the satellite without obstructions, you might have some trouble.
