As the pair were driving on Highway 59 Tim noticed a strange, slightly glowing object that passed directly in front of their vehicle a short distance away. The object disappeared temporarily behind a hill before appearing once more a moment later. The tissues surrounding these small metallic foreign objects, which looked like ‘cantaloupe seeds radiating small tendrils’, were invariably devoid of any inflammatory reaction and were found, inexplicably, to contain nerve proprioceptors. Now, we can speculate all day about what might be going on here but one thing we can say, with certainty, is that no way do these things exhibit the characteristics normally seen with foreign bodies which find their way, through accident or other means, into the human organism. In ‘normal’ cases, a foreign body would generate substantial and persistent inflammatory tissue response and nerve tissue would never develop around it. Dr. Roger Leir, a podiatrist from Thousand Oaks, California, founder of FIRST (Fund for Interactive Research and Space Technology) and Derrel Sims, C.Ht., R.H.A., a certified hypnotherapist , co-founder of FIRST and experienced UFO Investigator of over 27 years, orchestrated the successful surgeries with a team of competent medical professionals and volunteers. The first set of “implant” surgeries took place on August 19, 1995 at Dr. Roger Leir’s podiatry clinic in Thousand Oaks, California.

The findings of these implant surgeries are highly unusual,” reported Dr. Leir. “In all these cases, there was virtually no inflammatory response.” This is not the usual finding in foreign tissue reactions. Normally, foreign bodies embedded in tissues result in some type of acute or chronic inflammatory response, and may include fibrosis and cyst formation. Such was not the case here. The pathology reports of the first two surgeries revealed that the metallic objects were encased in a very dense, tough, grey membrane consisting of proteinaceous coagulum, hemoseridin and pure keratin. More simply, blood protein and skin cells that are usually found in the superficial layer of the skin. The tough, biological “cocoons” encasing the implants were also found to contain nerve proprioceptors – nerve and pressure cells of the wrong tissue type for that part of the body. These implant cocoons also fluoresced a bright green color in the presence of an ultraviolet light source. When he showed up for the surgery, he found Leir trying to locate the piece of metal in his patient’s leg with a stud finder, a tool usually reserved for locating pieces support wood behind the walls of a building. In an interview with Alien Encounters Magazine, (July 1997 issue, United Kingdom) Derrel Sims commented on the uncommon, non-rejecting human response to the implants: “It seems that the dense fibrous membrane may have been the person’s own surface skin. If this is the case, it appears that the metallic objects are wrapped in a sheath of keratinaceous material (surface skin). Nerve fibers then surround the tissue and appear to be attached to larger nerves. The fact that both persons (from the first set of surgeries) objected verbally and physically could be an indication of this (nervous system) connection.” Mr. Sims believes the indications are very strong that these implants are extraterrestrial in origin. “But”, Mr. Sims concedes, “Whatever the scientists say who have examined the objects say, is what we will say.” Derrel Sims has stated that a scientific peer review of all tests must be done before more specifics can be released. For example, the atomic bomb could only be created when scientists were able to isolate one uranium isotope from the rest. It was determined, however, that the membrane around the device when it was removed was also discovered on other alleged alien implants removed by Leir. Cullen would offer in subsequent interviews that this membrane could protect the otherworldly device from foreign object rejection by the body.

In addition to the studies at Southwest Research, the objects were scientifically investigated by others of the most prestigious laboratories in the world including Los Alamos National Labs, New Mexico Tech, Seal Laboratories, the University of Toronto, York University, and the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Leir was also involved in investigations of other areas of Ufology involving physical evidence. He traveled to Brazil and performed exhaustive research into the Varginha, Brazil case. In 2003 Dr. Leir worked with one of the worlds leading geneticists and the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS) on a DNA study pertaining to evidence collected in a famous California alien abduction case. It seems these things were somehow designed to be bio-compatible with the abductee and ‘wired in’ to the nervous system. Other interesting characteristics included: As to changes in health, mood, dreams or psychic phenomena after the surgery, all five agreed as to some type of change. Mary Jones simply stated that she felt a sense of peace after her objects were removed. The guy who filmed this craft is called Murat Yalcin Yalman (Yilmaz) except for one time, Kusur baymayin Abbey with both filming hours of footage over the Sea of Marmaris not on land but over the Sea! Leir was born in the San Francisco Bay area in 1935. He moved to southern California at age 13. He described his childhood imagination as “wild and vivid”, often fantasizing that he was able to fly. He attended the University of Southern California and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Science in 1961. In 1964, he qualified as a podiatrist, and later became involved with the local chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). [2] Dr. Leir also researched UFO cases, including the 1996 Varginha, Brazil case in which an extraterrestrial was reportedly seen by multiple witnesses and captured by the military, and the 2007-2009 UFO sightings in Kumburgaz, Turkey.
