About this deal

Since leaded petrol was removed from fuelling stations, classic car owners either have to use unleaded or convert their cars to run on a different type of fuel.

Here’s a brief look at the pros and cons of both synthetic and non-synthetic oil: The Pros and Cons of Fully Synthetic Engine Oil More and more often, these are very specialised 'long life' oils designed to support very long intervals between services. The trial recorded fuel economy every time the tank was filled, manually noting down the litres added and mileage covered. The ACEA is the acronym (in French) for the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. It replaced the earlier CCMC in 1996. The association sets certain standards for engine oils.

NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank to close at least 172 branches in 2023/24 – here's the full list, plus alternatives So, I am testing the Redex on a car that is 4 years old. I am guessing that there isn’t a huge amount of deposit build-up on the injectors from the 30,000 miles it has done during its time on the road. But after using the first shot bottle of Redex and completing the first 400 miles until the tank was empty, I felt good knowing that I was taking care of the inside of the engine and removing any deposits that may be degrading performance.

We’ve been testing Redex System Cleaner for two months now. Our 2.2-litre Diesel Range Rover Evoque has been having the Redex treatment, and is a lot better off for it. The Benefits of a System Clean As I’ve made clear previously, this isn’t a laboratory test in controlled conditions but rather a real-world trial that gives a decent indication of what any driver can expect in everyday life. I’ve just finished a three-month trial of Redex fuel system additives in my Mazda MX-5 to see if I could feel any increase in my car’s performance or measure any significant difference in its fuel economy. We noticed slight increases in mileage per tank after the second and third additions of Redex. This of course can’t be definitively put down to the system cleaner, but it certainly didn’t hurt. Since our car is relatively young, the best we can expect is a 2-3% improvement in performance. For older cars, say 10 years or older, you can experience more drastic improvements as the fuel deposits will have had more of a chance to gather.

The viscosity for hot and cold will both be marked on the oil's container as a code e.g. 5W–30. The first part of the code is the cold temperature grade, and the second part is the high temperature grade. The driving conditions and traffic largely influenced the fuel economy more than the fuel additive products. Redex Lead Replacement maintains good engine performance by stopping valve seat recession, so it protects the fragile components within classic engines. It’s also safe to use other Redex products, such as our Petrol System Cleaner, in a classic car, and this help will keep it in the very best condition, removing harmful deposits to help improve engine life. Talking of de-carbonising,whilst attending Grantham Tech in the mid-late `70`s,amongst the various engines, cutaways etc we had in the w/shop dept ,there was a Commer 2-stroke diesel engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commer_TS3 .Was told that on reaching the finite amount of carbon build-up that clearances on this fascinating engine allowed they would self de-carbonise whilst vehicle was on the move...probably not a nice vehicle to be following at such a time.

On the second and third tanks of fuel, I did notice slightly increased total mileage per tank, but of course, it is very difficult to prove that the Redex System Cleaner was the the factor that influenced the extended range, but it definitely wouldn’t cause a decrease in total range. Below is a table of my last recording before starting withthe Redex products, followed by one tank of the heavy-duty Redex Advanced 5-in-1 system cleaner and then six tanks using the regular Redex petrol system cleaner. My fuel economy figures haven’t shown any changes that could really be attributed to the Redex products. The variation of 3-4mpg above or below the average based on driving conditions and traffic outweighs any potential gain from the products. Again, if you were running a laboratory experiment that directly measured fuel consumption and removed all other variables then you may be able to show an improvement, but it’s nothing really noticeable. Martin Lewis: Do you have a Power of Attorney? It’s crucial protection – not just for the elderly – and more important than a will Step 3 – Pour a single shot of Redex fuel additive into the system . Again, the innovative design of the bottle makes it easy to add the right amount. Not sure how much you need? Read our expert guide.

The benefits extend beyond saving you money on fuel, though. This reduction of harmful emissions could mean your vehicle is a step closer to passing its MOT, meaning even less money is spent on repairs to make it roadworthy. The fuel economy results did not show significant differences attributable to the use of Redex fuel system cleaners. Later specification oils are usually, but not always, suitable for older cars, while older specification oils shouldn’t be used in newer cars.

The Redex fuel additive trial was conducted over three months in a 2013 Mazda MX-5 2.0-litre manual in normal driving conditions. Since May, I’ve been recording my fuel economy every time I fill up the tank – manually noting down the litres added and mileage covered, rather than relying on the car’s trip computer – and adding a dose of Redex to the tank. Redex offers a premium brand solution to improve fuel economy. The cleaner, available for both petrol and diesel cars, promises to keep both your fuel consumption and emissions low. This means the product is not only great for your car, but great for the environment too.
