Soldered on radio modules are a common sight when taking apart cheap wireless gadgets, as it saves the designers from having to figure out the RF side of things. Plus, when Musical Moose recognises other Linkimals™ friends, they create a synchronised music and light show! Rather than toss the parts in the trash, I decided to wire in a header between the two chips so I could plug in a logic analyzer. Four of the channels initially see some chatter right after power up, but then quiet down and don’t show any more activity.

Which is good, since I don’t think my daughter would forgive me if any more of these fellows met the same fate as the Musical Moose. It’s such a fun concept to have linked singing animals, it almost seems a shame not to have it be more than just a novelty that will get binned. Comes with a soft, crinkly ear and bat-at roller for little hands, plus a take-along handle and light-up belly. These friendly creatures can operate independently by singing songs and flashing their integrated RGB LEDs in response to button presses, but get a few of them in the room together, and their 2.Kids can easily press the moose’s belly, it claps its hands and bobs its head along with fun lights, songs and music. Shoulda used a real ESP32 and connected it to tbe network so kids could make their own songs with an app! Plus, when Musical Moose recognizes other Linkimals friends, they create a synchronized music and light show!
